Just wondering. ....Where do your birds go with you?

How do you take your bird to different places? In a cage? With a harness? Are the wings clipped? and what do you do with him in the car? Doesn't he poop everywhere?

OMG, sorry for so many questions, I just can't see self doing it

i have a travel cage and a Pak 0 Bird and he's ok with both. Probably will go into back pack easier as it definitely means a trip out. He's been on hols with us:- taken him round castles (it only said no dogs!) and people were great or totally ignored us. He loves the beach and mimics dogs barking - this year he warned me of an sudden and strong tide approaching so saved me wet feet. Travel cage is usually to friends or vets and traveling in car on way to hols. Not bothered with a harness as he prefers the security of being in something. Hope this helps?

Ralph has a small transport cage that I use anytime he leaves the apartment. He loves playing on the outside of it-- I use it as a sort of "front porch" for his big cage-- but he really dislikes going inside it. It's much too risky to take him out "loose," and he wouldn't accept a harness. And one of the conditions for bringing him to visit at the nursing home is that he must be caged at all times.

I took my tiel out once in a tiny travel cage. I ziptied the bottom on so it wouldnt fall off. We just went to the eye glass place up the street.

I made a car perch for my birds. They love going on the car rides. It's very easy to make with the PVC pipes. I am sure you can purchase them as well. Also Pack-O-Bird backpack makes it very easy to take them wherever I go.
It's doable and a good thing to do.

1. Mine are out and about trained.

2. Some are clipped, the rest are recalled.

3. My birds don't even go in their wall unit sized cages... travel cages? Not happening! They'd scream bloody murder. They were taught that if they wanted to come, they had to behave.

4. Mine fight the harnesses as well, plus I'm lazy. I hate it as much as they do.

5. If we are in the car, and it's just one, then that one stays on my shoulder. If it's more than one, I also have birdie car seats... although Lila prefers perching on the head rest. Everyone else stays put on their car seat.

6. They're poop trained. Unless it's a really long drive, it's generally not a problem, and I put a towel down over the seat. If they poop on the towel you just wash it.

It's not for everyone. But my guys would HATE not going out...

We taken Happy out several times now. The only store we've gone into is Lowes. We had a few strange looks. Hubby took him out of his travel cage and carried him around. He pooped when he went back into his travel cage. I must say he was the perfect birdie on his trip.

I take my DYH out to festivals in the summer - he's even been written up in the news. Warning: walking around a crowded festival, particularly one with lots of children, often means being mobbed. You walk a few meters, have to stop for people who want to see him, walk a few more meters, have to stop again.... ;)

When we're outside, he's in a flight suit or feather tether. Actually, come to think of it, it's been a while since I last used the feather tether, I usually just opt for the flight suit these days.

In the car he's very unhappy if he has to be in a travel cage, even though that's easiest, and he'll complain quite a bit. He wants to be able to roam freely, usually sitting on a shoulder, often a preferred shoulder. Sometimes he doesn't want to be high up though. When he moves around it can be a distraction to driving - I've even had two occasions where he tried to climb down to near the gas and brakes(!!). But usually he's well behaved.

Concerning pooping: he's potty trained. Unfortunately, that means "potty trained in normal circumstances"; the less comfortable he is in a given situation, the less good he's going to be about holding it. But he's gotten pretty used to car travel. In a car, if he's not in his flight suit, I offer to him at regular intervals to go to the bathroom (I bring a piece of newspaper and set it somewhere accessible). He has to always try, I use my thumb to try to make it difficult for him to just walk back to my shoulder ;) I potty trained him to go (if he can) when I hold him over something and say "go potty!"... though I've switched to "Viltu kúka?" and he still goes, so I think it's simply the action of holding him out over something and the tone of voice that cues him in)

Sometimes I travel with him in his flight suit. The downside to that is he'll chew at it and try to get it off. And while they're parrot-beak-resistant, they're not parrot-beak-proof.
