Well as many of you may have read my gorgeous baby eckie Nelson passed away earlier in the week. A necropsy revealed an aggressive bacterial infection and the vets were lead to believe he was born with some kind of issue effecting his immune system which was why the infection took over so quickly and why he had caught something and Barry was healthy (after tests to be sure). Well anyway i was so relieved that Barry was ok but it meant everything needed disinfecting and i had to throw out 90% of the toys and all of the perches and rope. Replacing everything on top of the vet bills was going to be fun but at least Barry was ok!

Things can only better from here right? Wrong. Barry managed to escape while i was at work yesterday morning and the windows were open just enough for him to get out of the house so i came home at lunch time to no bird =( The wind has been awful which has made it very hard to try and find him. If he was nearby he would call back if he heard me but the wind makes it about impossible to hear much anyway =/ I have put a lost add all over the internet, notified neighbors and the local vet clinics and I will make posters for the local shops in the next few days. Issue is i live in a rural area (moments like these you realize how many trees there are in the middle of nowhere) although there is a village nearby. I have seen a ton of hawks around the past few days but there are so many thick hedges and shelter belts im praying he is keeping safe.Hoping the wind will die down over the weekend so i can do some proper searching! Have a cage outside for him and one inside too (with all of the windows wide open so he can get in) but there are so many pigeons and mynahs that live by my house im worried they will keep him from coming home even if he wanted too.

What a mess. What an awful week =( Sucks to be me huh.

That is just heartbreaking. I'm so very sorry for all you have suffered this week. Fingers crossed for Barry's safe return home

{hugs}

A friend offered me his young Barraband as a call bird. Do you think this could still work even though he hasn't been raised with other barrabands and doesn't seem to like other birds?

I think it might work to get a response back from Barry. I'm so sorry for this rough time you are going through :( I hope you find him very soon. Can you take a day off or two from work to stay at your home base? I think the first few days from now will be crucial in the search for your bird before he gets to far away.

It may or may not work. But it couldn't hurt to give it a try!

Oh!! I was so sorry to hear of both the heartbreak with Nelson and now this with Barry! I really hope you can be lucky with Barry. Take care of yourself *hugs*

He will call to me if he hears me but its been that windy that even if he was nearby i probably couldnt hear him. I live on the property i work so have been keeping an eye out and calling for him during work. I am back at my house at lunch time too. As much as i like to think he wouldnt have gone far I worry that because he took off in the wind it could have carried a fair way away although it also makes me think he will be to scared to try and fly too much in the wind, he isnt flying very well at the moment because of broken flight feathers.

oh noo :( what a horrible turn of events! i have my fingers crossed in hopes that he returns to you safely!

Oh, that is just so sad!! I'm so sorry that you're having such a rough time :(

Hoping for a quick and safe return. ((Hugs))

I am so very sorry to hear this sad news. What a terrible thing to happen. I think it's a great idea to put up as many posters and flyers as you possibly can. I would call every pet clinic and humane society in your area too. They can take your name and number just in case someone finds Barry and tries to locate his family. I hope you have him home safe very soon.

I'm so sorry to hear everything you've gone through this week. I hope Barry makes it back to you safe.

Oh Sophia, I am so sorry at all you have gone through this week! I am praying that he finds his way home to you. No one should have this kind of heartbreak all at once:(

I hope he comes back. Don't give up hope - and if you know anyone with children in the area, ask them to look and tell their friends there is a reward. Children are the most likely to be playing in trees etc.. and some of them will set off searching if they thing there is a big reward - and even £20 is a lot to a child.

SCRAP! You've had a rotten time. I wish I could make it better, but alas, all bird owners have these days. Hope the bird finds his way home.

omg, that is just heart wrenching news.....
I am so sorry you are going thru this.....

can you drive around calling for him?? the other barraband is a good idea, I'd be willing to try anything at this point.
