Green Cheek Conure
Hello All,

I have had the great pleasure of sharing my life with Jadie Bird, my green cheeked conure, for over 22 years. We are about to embark on a new adventure in Montreal, Canada, and I am trying to sort through all of the rules and regulations to get JD over the border and back ... perhaps several times. I've researched the need for a vet exam at the border, and the declaration he has been in my possession for 90 days and not near other bird recently ... but when we get to the special rules for "exotics" (CITES requirements, USDA) it gets more complicated. Would love any advice from anyone who has taken a conure or other "exotic" bird over the Canadian border and back ..

I wanted to add, about one year ago, there was a member that went through this! Her journey was documented fairly well! I tried a quick search, but struck out!
There are issues!

Hello and welcome to the forums JDBirdsmom and Jadie Bird! Sorry, I'm of no help in your endeavor, as I'm not familiar with crossing the Northern border especially with a pet. I'm sure someone will be along shortly who will obviously be more help than I.... I will say we love pictures here, so if you get a chance later, if you could post some pictures of Jadie Bird, we would sure love that.

Welcome and good luck! I have read only that it is extremely difficult esp with a CITES animal. I would hope your bird is leg banded, with a solid ring ( not a split ring), and that you might have the papers from the breeder referencing those numbers-letters on it. Have a copy of the regulations to show to border patrol staff - most will not know the fine print when it comes to this situation and will just say NO ENTRY. A signed letter from the section chief would not hurt either. If yur flying, check with the airline on THEIR rules too.

Welcome! Nice to hear of a bird that's healthy into their twenties, great job!

Welcome to you and Jadie Bird, I wish you much success with border crossings.

Will do a thorough search later today and locate the thread "Flboy" referenced. Bottom line, due diligence and strict adherence to all applicable rules and guidelines makes for a smoother experience.
