Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
… I try to do right by my kids, after all they both are a very big part of my life :)
Amy gets his meds EVERY day..I never "forget"! They both see Doc Kristin at least once a year for wellness/grooming,and I NEVER say "maybe later" if one of them are ill! ( that really p.m.o. when I read someone say that!) BB went twice in a couple months because of his infection and Amy goes back to have his heart checked, even though Doc said there isn't really anything that can be checked ( blood work is at his wellness checks),unless something "happened"

I try to feed them properly. No one gets seed anymore, except millet for treats for Beebs and maybe a nutraberry for the big green guy, ocassionally. They get BSB food...pellets..I don't make chop but I do go to market and get bags of stuff like mixed cabbage and carrot shavings..broc and cauli heads, baby carrots. I get mini corn cobs coz Amy loves them..try to mix it up with pea pods, kale, just to be tossed out of the bowl and I get the hairy eyeball.
I get banana's or grapes and oranges. BB runs from the grapes and Amy almost always tosses them. He does LOVE banana...BB walks over them.
BB gets a small plate of BSB at night when we watch tv together. He has eaten every flavor with gusto but wont touch it if its in his bowl..he has to be watching tv or YT vids :54:

Both are out at night..even at times in the day. Amy goes for rides and loves them, but BB is flighted so he can't unless in a carrier and that's no fun. Maybe its time for a pak-o-birb or equivalent ;)

For the last few nights Beebs has been a real PUTZ! He has been growling ALOT! Even at ME! His favorite person :02: and nippy!
Both of them are going thru a heavy molt..can't remember the last time I have picked up so many sleeves and rudders and now under fluffies. Yesterday Amy was on his X perch preening and a sleeve and rudder fell, then he vigorously shook himself and the air exploded with underfluffies and the poor thing has a head full of pinnies.

Maybe this is why little fluffboy is so grumpy :confused: sighhhh

I feel ya - I’m pretty sure that I could play build-a-bird here right now. Screamer (cockatiel) has dropped what looks like a whole birds-worth of feathers in the last couple of weeks, yet still looks perfectly feathered. She has lots of little pin feathers though and is grouchy as all get out! When Baby (sun) flies, a flight falls out or a rudder drops when she turns a corner lol. The others finished molting a few weeks ago, so now just have a few pin feathers left.

I would guess that’s why Mr BB is grumpy :).

I can say that neither of my babies wanted spit to do with me while molting, not grumpy per se, but then I have been bitten by Senegals before, and that sh!t hurts bad for a bird that size, so forcing interaction isn't really my bag anymore, just distant and aloof, I feel you on the "do it later" thing, but do recall that not everyone has consistent access to a CAV, I_m willing to bet in Rugby ND tomorrow I'm up the creek, but for those that DO have one close by, yes it does grate the nerves. I also agree that birds are not a "do it later" thing in general, right now I'm in my truck playing with birds rather than in the bar warching football, would I liketo be in watching football? You bet your bum I would, but I wouldn't trade these moments for anything, part of the experience, and I'll stay hereuntil they volunteer themselves back in the cage and that'll be that, if I don't get to watch the Cowboys game that's cool, I'll listen instead...these fluffy little buggers are definitely a priority.

Sometimes I wonder if our amazon and tiel are distant cousins!

Ours are STILL molting as well. Kirby dropped a big flight feather just the other day (and not one of his clipped ones, gosh dangit) and both of them are covered in pinfeathers when I pet them. I've tried helping them get some of the keratin off them but I don't really have the hang of knowing which ones are ready and they've both emphatically indicated my help is NOT wanted! They've definitely been a little grumpy.

Our dogs are also shedding up a storm. It's been an entire month - will it ever end?!

Yep, I'm betting the molt is the reason for the grumps, too! Just lean in and weather that storm, Jim! It'll pass... eventually.

The imagery of BB exploding with feathers and floofies is so on point. Do you remember the first time you walked into the bird's area and saw all of that on the floor?!? I know it scared the living daylights out of me! Saw the feather debris first and wondered if there could possibly be any bird left! Hahaha! Not cool! (And that first time was with my 'tiel, Suzie.)

Love your feather terminology there, Jim. Yep, it's under-fluffy time here too.
