So Kiwi's JB has essentially become a oversized way too easy foraging toy since he flat refuses to go inside beyond sticking his head in Due to now hanging from the ceiling and being flightless he can't really reach the sides for hanging toys either. Hubby thinks the reason he won't go in it is because it is concave inside and says I should add a perch inside (which is a good idea, thanks Joe!). I'm planning on making a small t-perch screwed up through the bottom for him. That got me to thinking, if I could add little 'nubs' on the outside for him to climb on (king of like a climbing wall idea), he would be able to climb on the ball and get way more use out of it.
My current idea is to get 2 wood dowels and cut them up into 1" and 3-4" pieces. I'm thinking I could create a network of mini t-perches on the exterior of the ball (drill holes and screw them in) for him to climb on. Wondering though if anyone has any other ideas for what I could use to make like a spherical climbing wall on the outside? Kiwi is absolutely fearless when climbing and totally insane with what he can climb (for example, the dresser, using the little round knobs as beak/foot holds). Just need to make sure I can give him a good set of grips and I think he'd be all over it. Any suggestions besides my mini t-perch idea would be appreciated
The colorful things would be awesome if they are safe for birds and available to buy! Any thoughts?
