I've spent a couple days getting Jasper used to the harness in his presence, but today we had success in actually wearing it and headed out to the front lawn for some exploring. Hopefully we both get a little less clumsy after some more practice. Getting it on and off is not second nature to me or him. Lol. I am excited that we got it on today though, the near 75 degree weather was begging us to come outdoors.

Very proud of my little man.

Awwww, that is soooo cute. How hard was it to get him adjusted to putting the harness on? Also was it difficult getting it off of him? I'm curious about trying one on my bird, but I'm just afraid that once she has it on, she will freak out and flop around like a chicken with a string tied to one of it's legs.

Plus, I have one of these that have been hanging around the house as of late.:11:

Eeek. Ya the safety reassurance is why I bought it. The breeder clipped him so he is a sitting duck right now and I'm so glad I can now start taking him out to see new things while I have peace of mind.

I was soooo worried he was going to freak out with it on. He has been very sensitive and unsure of some new things (petrified of the little ball that has a bell in it....lol) but surprisingly he was just fine once it was on. He kept wanting to nibble on it but he did not freak at all. He did give me a couple good nips when I tightened and untightened it but nothing major. He didn't squak or seem overly fearful. The last couple days I would kind of draped it over him and pet him with it so he was kind of familiar with it being close to him. I also have worked hard to be able to touch him all over so that he would be comfortable with me lifting his wings and sliding it over his head. The harness came with a video that is pretty helpful by explaining how to acclimate them to the harness. So far so good for Jasper. I know my Sun conure is not ready for a harness and may never be. She hates having anything but her head touched.

one of the best harness i found was the thing called "the flight suit" look it up I love love them !!! and they catch the poop too if you take them to stores or anything or to someone house. A little maxy pad fits right inside LOL Sophie got use to her flight suite in like a week. She wears it everyplace now.

I thought about getting a flight suit also. I am going to look into it. Glad to hear it works well for your Sophie! She accepted it easily then? Has she worn other harnesses in the past?

Oh, can I ask where you purchased it from? Sophie is beautiful btw!

I use the flight suit with the aviator harness. The leash that you can use with the flight suit is actually not rated for outdoor use. Birds can and have escaped from it.

oh how cute! I love seeing birds getting used to harnesses they are a great thing to have so birds can enjoy outside safely!

Hi there, I started Sophie with her fight suite at 8 weeks old. So very very young. To her its like ohh great moms is dressing me up again. I have dresses for her and sweaters and hats too LOL she dont wear them much but its fun for pics. In the winter i put a snuggy on her if we go in the car. As for her flight suit ... I got it at Fight Quaters. com I like it alot and use the whole package, but with that said I never ever leave sophie outside alone I am always with her. I personally have not had her get out of her suit but she dont try to ether. So if you have a harder bird that may not like it, i can see where it velcro's that it may not be the right pick for some birds. I would say check it out and see if you like it tho, Sophie finds it more forgiving to wear.

I like it cause she dont crap all over when we go out to the pet store, or to a freinds house. I have already tought sophie not to pooh on people so i just have to worrie about floors.

Good luck ! I know its alot of fun once your baby can go places with you and you dont have the fear of them flying off :) Another thing you may want to start traning for and I just started which i wish i would have done way soon is a Car Perch. You can build them your self for really cheap.

Thanks for all the info! I'll probably get a suit and see what he thinks about it. Having the poop issue take care of let's him go even more places and I'm a big believer in socializing which is tough if people are nervous about a popping bird. Lol. Jasper is young still so hopefully he will get used to the suit and the harness.

I already have all my items to make the car perch. Going to do that later this week:)

Thanks again!!!

I introduced Loki to her Aviator harness yesterday for the first time. She was scared at first, but I had it over her head within five minutes. I want to wait for a warm day, for the first time I put it all the way on her, because I want her to associate it with going outdoors.

Taking it off her head was more difficult, and she didn't like it.

Day two was a little easier for us. Hopefully with practice we will both be more smooth in getting it on and off.
