I've adopted a Macaw & need some advice

I too make my own toys, There is this kung fu place by me and all the kids break untreated wood, they throw away the broken pieces, i ask them to donate the pieces to me free of charge, I drill holes through the wood, run link chains from used toys through the wood and now I have a new toy for my boys. Sometimes if i have time, I use bird safe food dye and soak the wood to make interesting colors.
I'm really glad to hear about your process with george, now that he is standing onto your hand, it's time to press a little bit harder and ak him to step up onto your arm, then pull him close to your body but away from your face. See what happens and have treats ready. Let me how you make out. Thanks Joe

I have a 15 or 25 year old Green Wing. He was a rescue that lived in a reptile pet store. This poor bird was surrounded by 20 foot pythons on all sides and covered in his own waste. The only experience I had was with a yellow nape very different parrot. Winston and I had 2 awesome months...the honeymoon stage! I would never have believed he would bite me and then it came worst bite I have ever had. I am now back to the drawing board trying to establish trust and build a relationship. I often feel I have bitten off more than I can chew. He is a complete mystery to me. His behavior baffles me one thing can mean a lot of things. I just can't give up on him. I wish he could be in his rightful home flying with his flock but he can't; because someone thought he was pretty and would be fun to own. I am retired so I have the time to give him but it is still demanding. No matter where we end up he is better off with me than where he was.

Open the door. Wait for him to come out and perch on the door.

Put a chair next to the cage, but pretend to ignore him.... YOU DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE HE WAS THERE...

Sit there cracking open walnuts and eating them.

See how fast he climbs down and sits on your lap on his own...

OH! HELLO... What?! You like these too?! I'm happy to share if you take them nice. Here you go...

Head scratch?! Yes. Is that good too...?!

Let the bird come to you.

Make him think it was his idea....
