..Well not getting a bird. But planning!
When I first got into birds I had all these cray ideas of planning ideas for owning Cockatiels to Macaws.
But now I actually get to carry out my plans for hopefully a Poi (also a Pi) with the toys and playgyms... and the name, which will most likely be Rhaegal if a boy and Kimmy if a girl.

I'm not too sure which bird I will ultimately adopting yet because I can't find any Poicephalus breeders, and definitely any Pionus'. In general, there's really no breeders here that I trust except one (can we post names of breeders? keeping it safe rather than sorry).

Why from a breeder? The prices feel like they are doubled, and I'd rather have a bird choose me to make the bonding experience better. It's not too shabby getting to play with birds all day lol.

So now my 2nd option is a Green Cheek, half since they're so dang cute and the other half because of their feisty and cuddly personality).

Okay, starting to rant so you can stop here if you want.

I started thinking of getting a Poi, a Meyer's or Senegal, from the other islands from the people that still breed (so far, only 2) but having to fly back and forth twice isn't really my cup of tea. I would still have to put the bird in quarantine and then quarantine again once in Hawaii, but that's pretty much all I know for interisland shipping, there's really no information of the process.

I'm also going to try join one of the two parrot clubs, but it's hard to do with my mom's working schedule. Craigslist had birds that I wished I could have but no birds "my type" and its full of unhealthy, very shady breeders. I know There's still a lot of time to wait and I don't mind but right now, it feels really defeating. I'm starting to feel that I'm going to end up just "dreaming" of getting one like every bird i wanted (but not really such a bad thing).

Anyways, if you read till here, thank you, sorry again for the complaining

Do you mean the prices from breeder seems doubled, or if it is not from a breeder?

I have heard quite a few breeders here in Hawaii express to me that they feel "burned out." Several of them are leaving the island, and many are selling their whole flock or at least most of it. Also, because of all the shady breeders here it is hard for legitimate breeders to make money selling the species that are "easy to breed" such as cockatiels (and can I just express sadness for the number of red-bellied parrots that are bred like rodents here?).

I suggest joining both the parrot clubs' facebook pages, so you can get the updates, etc, and maybe make the meetings. I think the both meet at the same time on the same day each month, actually.

Sorry, meant the pet shops.
I wish that those breeders would post more ads, or try to promote themselves, but if they want to be more private or any other reasons I respect that...although i could help their business ;) haha.
And I started to realize more and more breeders are moving or retired after calling 10+ phone numbers and sending emails.

I contacted a CL cockatiel breeder an hour ago, just to see if he was a more "legit" breeder and asked him at least 15 questions (my bad).

I'm a follower of both clubs on FB and would like to eventually attend both clubs meeting but I'm working with my mom's work schedule at the moment. But the APA, so far, has more updates and rehoming's rather than HFF, which makes choosing a "permanent" club really hard .
