I usualy do not go to petco but since my sister, mom and I were in the big city we went in and looked around. They do sell conures but what struck out to me was the ringneck parakett. What also stuck out was they were asking three hundred something dollars but were asking a higher price for the sun conure. I was just surprised by that. I will end on a cute note that the cute baby sun conure seemed interested in my mother. When the conure would see my mother it would climbed down and get closer to glass. Guess, a sign mom should consider being a parronet? :)

Our petco has a black cap Gcc that they been calling a 'fancy GCC,asking 450, well, someone must have told em it is a back cap, new sign, 550 now! Poor guy is getting rattier by the day!

Black capped isn't a GCC at all. It's another species also in the Pyrrhura genus ;) I think they're really pretty. The ones I've seen were smaller than GCC. Is JoJo the same size or smaller?

Ya at my Petco, they were asking 500 for a GREEN quaker parakeet! Green for pete sakes! If it was blue or yellow, that would be fine, it would be a bargen if it was yellow! But green? Sheesh.

Like the others have mentioned, Petco & their competitors are not best at properly identifying their for-sale stock and the variety in pricing is usually dictated by what a seller thinks they can get for a particular bird, especially if they don't have any area sales to compare to.....actually, they might have asked one of their stores that had another of that specie what they were asking.....

Supply, demand & uniqueness are often the determining factors on pricing.....

There's a Petco near me that has a Sun conure that my GF adores. He comes down of his perch to the window to greet her and nibbles on her finger in the space between the door. They named him/her Sprinkles. I feel bad for it, but I would never buy one from a store like that. Plus they want $600. If we're in the area we'll stop in and say high to Sprinkles. :)

My wife loves going into the large pet chain (PetLand, basically PetCo Canada) near our house because they have a decent selection of (overpriced and underappreciated) birds. Poor things are kept so close to the door and always puffed up.

The worst however, is the 8 month old Scarlet Macaw there. He's been there since he was 6 months old (and was already weaned!!?!?) and is being sold for $6000 smackers (buy now and get 20% off his acceptably large cage!).

It's ludicrous and I want to take all of the birbs home with me.
