Back in October I rescued an adult green cheek, whom I renamed Phaedrus.
He had never been let out of his cage prior to coming here, and it took him a while to warm up to me and the rest of the flock. His wings were very weak and he had trouble flying.

Well, today it finally happened. My handsome man flew off of the top of his cage, all the way across the room and landed on my hand!

He then insisted on staying at my table and keeping himself busy.

When he was ready to go back to his cage, he left me a little present <3

...Lucy, my freshly-clipped cockatiel also tried to fly over to me. She was not as successful.

Aw congrats! Its old to have lighted birds! Its health for them too! :D I love it when they leave little presents! And green cheek feathers are just beautiful! How the green fades to blue! :D And your sweet little tile is very cute!

Phaedrus is such a gorgeous GCC! Looks like he's bonding to you quite nicely!

Nice going, Phaedrus! He's just beautiful! I'm glad he's regaining his confidence now that he has new freedom.

Sweet Lucy! She doesn't look disappointed at all, curious maybe!

First off, love the name!!! Is there a Socrates in the flock as well?

And congratulations on Phaedrus' first flight! It is a testament to all of the love you have shown him. What a beautiful green cheek he is!

The pic of Lucy is also priceless! Hahaha! Maybe she'll reach her intended target next time.

Thank you all! I'm very proud of him :)
This isn't his first flight exactly, but it's his first time making it across the entire room and landing on me. He started trying to take off earlier this week, but would get scared and turn around after leaving the cage, thus doing a very tiny circle. Prior to this week, he'd only fly when he got spooked and took off, but he'd never make it very far before thumping gently on the floor because his wings were so weak. I've been doing my best to work with him to get them stronger, and I guess it's paying off!

I do not have a Socrates, but considered that name for my CAG baby (who I'm super excited to meet tomorrow!). I'll find out the gender in a few weeks. If it's a boy, I'm naming him Versailles, and a girl will be Nephele.
Other names that were on my list include Galileo, Andromeda, Atticus, Cicero, Archimedes, and a few others for both genders.

Lucy's full name is actually Lucifer (I thought she was a boy for a while due to inexperience and her adult plumage not showing up for a while). The name used to be attributed to more positive things, and I named her that because she's the light of my life.
Genevieve, my other GCC, was going to be called Juniper, but decided to go with the French surname version. I still call her Junebug as a nickname.

I figure that since I'll have these little monsters for a few decades (hopefully), they should have serious meaning behind their names.

Sadly, I have absolutely no idea how old he is ):
I'm at least his third home. He's definitely a mature adult, but I have no way of knowing how old he might be... No records or anything.

I plan to take him to an avian vet very soon, and hopefully they can give me some answers. He's such a sweet little gentleman, and it makes me so sad that he was never given a chance in his old homes. He used to always lunge at everyone but me, and especially my partner, so I worry that a man hurt or scared him. But we've managed to pretty much reverse that. He was so sweet from the day I brought him home; just very shy and apprehensive about coming out of his cage. I was sure to let him go at his own pace, and at night he'd start wandering over to me from the cage. Eventually I moved him into the same roost cage as my girls, and they all get along great.
He just doesn't like people much, and he still likes to stay in the cage during the day. I have to coax him out some days, then lock him out so he plays and socializes with the other birds.

Some days, he's excellent with stepping up when I want him to, but once in a while (like today), he gets stubborn and wants nothing to do with the outside (of the cage) world. He's currently hanging upside down, chirping at me like a cricket.
