Is this Jenday Healthy?

Thanks everyone for the advice, it's been truly helpful. For the time being I think I'm going to stay away from the jenday, the screeching would drive me nuts. Any recommendations on another species of bird? Green Cheek Conures as one person said? Thoughts?

Since this will be your first experience with a bird, I would suggest looking into parakeet species or cockatiels. English budgies, Alexandrines and Quakers are larger species of keets', and from what I hear, very sweet and (relatively) easy first birds. Cockatiels are also good first birds, they are absolutely adorable with their little crests and (in some species) little yellow cheeks, but don't pack the noise power of a larger bird. Conures are notorious noisy for their size, and if it's something that really concerns you, they may not be a good fit for you as a species.

If you are interested in adopting a bird or wouldn't mind an older bird, I strongly suggest you look into local avian shelters. Lots of birds from the tiniest parrolettes to the largest macaws are in shelters just waiting to find a loving, forever home. Adopting a bird can be a very rewarding experience, and you will get the support of the shelter to help you and your new buddy adjust to a great life together.

Green Cheek Conures would be perfect! I believe that a Green Cheek conure is the best first bird along with Lovebirds as long as you do your research on them. I believe either of those would be good first birds they arent very loud my lovebirds will make noises very often but they are nice noises and not so loud and my green cheek Conures hardly make noise and its also not too loud most conures are noisy and loud but Green Cheeks are not like that at all! and they are both very sweet birds generally and playful! However all birds needs are different so make sure to do your research :)

... sun conures and jendays and even nan days have always bugged me With there screech:p.

I'm not too keen on their noise either. I kept conures for a few years, some rehomed fellows I bought when I was too dumb to know that they weren't a good fit for me. Thankfully when I moved to another state and they REALLY did not like our new digs, I found a wonderful small pet store who had a good clientele and they were able to find a good home for both pairs. This happened to be in San Franciso and one pair was Mitred Conures... so I've kind of wondered if they, you know, somehow were "added" to the flock on Telegraph Hill, at some point. The other pair were Nandays.

Sorry for the digression. I tend to do that. :)

I would definitely recommend a green cheek, but some are noisier than others. I've meet GCCs that were practically silent, but Peeko does scream for a little while every day - every night without fail when its bedtime, and occasional spurts during the day as well. I've gotten used to it, but other family members aren't keen on it since you can hear it throughout the house. Suns and Jendays are much louder and scream much more often as a general rule. But even though GCCs are considered the quietest of conures, that doesn't necessarily mean they're quiet in general, just comparatively speaking.

I think Green cheek conures are only a little better on noise, my Grandma had one...very sweet bird though. I still say Pionus parrots are wonderful. Poicephalus are wonderful too but they are not as social, they normally only accept 1-2 people.

I have 3 cocktiels that I've had for about 11 years now. I've had them since I received them as a Christmas present. I'm looking for a bigger bird species but would like to find one with the same type of temperment as my tiels. Prefer to get a recently weaned bird.

All great suggestions! I'm doing some research on Green Cheeks, I am taking my time throughout this process to make sure I make the best choice for the bird and myself. I live alone and have an entire room in my house dedicated to my cocktiels, the only time I really cage them is bedtime and if I leave the house (I work from home so maybe only a couple hours a day when I run errands or go to the gym). I do believe I can provide the perfect environment for a "needy" species of bird. My tiels are very tame and well socialized, like human attention but prefer each other's company most of the time (they've been together 11 years). If anyone has some advice on picking a GCC or any other thoughts please do share them. This has been one of the best forums for information and it's amazing to see how helpful people are here.

I have two GCC one is so silent I don't even know he's there. He's also very shy and will only stand on shoulders fingers scare him. (he's new)

I have Sheldon, my baby GCC he's fairly quiet. He likes to quack like a duck. He's VERY mouthy though. He constantly chews on fingers. He doesn't bite but if you don't remove his mouth he tends to turn up the pressure.

I have a Cockatoo. He's loud :) his screams will split your head open. Luckily he's an older guy and he doesn't scream often.

I'm getting a sun conure, while I was researching a one flew up to my ear and screeched LOUD . That was the end of my poor ear lol. I would reccomend a green cheek conure, they are not too loud, though not silent. They just make a few screeches and some songs, beautiful species. A dusky headed conure is another option, I love the duskys plumage.

Here is a dusky conure

My GCC is not too noisy. She can make a ear piercing screech at times. But it is not often. I have even worked with her so most the time if she starts I tell her 'no quiet' and she makes the softest peeps. She will call when she hears the baby rats squeaking, or hears the jays outside, but it is really not bad. She is very outgoing and loves attention. Loves to be pet and scratched on her head and neck. She can be mouthy/beaky at times but quickly learned not to bite hard.
