Is this good for liver disease?

I don't know about England, but here in the USA it can cost $30-$80 to walk in the door, and the basic blood panel usually costs $75-$150.

If you have access to more than one a-vet, then call for pricing!

I'm sorry this is happening to Cookie :(. Stressful when we don't know what exactly is going on.

I'm not sure about prices in England, but to at least start with a basic blood panel shoudn't cost nearly as much as some other diagnostics. At least do that, then go from there.
Do you think your mom could help you with some money? Especially since her birds live under the same roof, it's good to have peace of mind that it's not from anything potentially contagious. I wouldn't be surprised if the problem is just systemic though and a blood panel says something about organ function.

Good luck Emily, keep us posted. :)

Finding a vet that specializes in birds is difficult where I live. I know there are some good Avian vets 100+ miles away, but I don't know if there are any good vets nearby. I will ask my parents to call around tomorrow. Hopefully we can find one nearby and take her.

Yeah, my parents would have to pay for vet bills since I'm not old enough to work.

At least it isn't contagious, that would be even worse. We wouldn't be able to afford to take four birds to an Avian vet, it would cost way too much.

Cookie has had the same problem ever since I got her. I always thought it was just colouring, I never thought to take her to a vet. I knew nothing about birds when I got her. I just hope that whatever she has is curable after 4 years.

I will post updates on how she is doing.

Hello,

Would appreciate anyone's help or advice.

Ordered some Lily of the dessert Detox Formula. It arrived today. How many tablespoons, teaspoons or mls should I give a Greencheek Conure per serving or per day please?

Thanks.

Jane

No advice, sorry. But I ordered some also, just in case and to have some on standby. Would be interested to know how much to give my Sennie also - and for how long.

Also, it lists buckthorn in the ingredients - and I've read on other sites that buckthorn is on the toxic list for parrots. I know lots of people have used this product though and it's been fine.

Where did you get yours, if you don't mind me asking (being as you're in the UK, the same as me). I got mine from Amazon.uk but it wasn't the nice bottle you see on Lily of the Desert website. It says it's the same thing but it's a different bottle. Like this -

Ok. Thank you. I got it from eBay.co.uk. It says aloe detox on the bottle I have.

I looked on there but couldn't find it in the UK - only being shipped from USA. I'm wondering now if I've gone and ordered the wrong one - although the ingredients are the same (including the Buckthorn, which I'm wary about). I think I've just wasted my money and should have kept looking for this one instead -

If you can get one into him you're probably doing good. Twice a day, even better. A little juice in the morning. A little juice in the evening. Bird thinks it's a treat.

My amazon was dying of liver disease, and I got a small bowl of apple juice down her 3-4 times a day. Same stuff. So I know it's not toxic. Her liver values went from should be dead, to within normal limits. Bluntly: In her condition, if there were anything toxic in there, they would have gone from should be dead, to IS dead.

Thanks for all your help.

We have been giving Cookie the Detox. She does seem to smell better, and I don't think her feathers are quite as oily.

I will keep you all updated.

Thanks again,

Jane

Chico has been getting the Aloe Detox 50/50 with water for a week each month since his last annual indicated fatty liver disease. I don't know how much he is actually ingesting. I tried to get him use to accepting fruit juices through a syringe and then try switching in the Aloe Detox but he did not like the syringe. I think I will try mixing it with apple juice and see if he will drink some in front of me. He also gets milk thistle seed raw and baked into his birdie bread. His annual is coming up in a couple of months. I am hoping for better labs this time. I will definitely report any improvement. He has also been on a reduced fat diet. He is down to an acceptable weight with a little more to go. His high was slightly over 500g. I would like him down around 565g. He is currently 570'ish.

Liver Disease / Fatty Liver in Birds

I will be very interested in knowing his before and after liver values if you wouldn't mind sharing them.
