My "Sun" kept crying like in pain. When I went closer this was hanging down from near his tail feathers. Everytime he brush it against something he cried out. I finally got him near to me and I touched it with tongs and it came loose. He does not appear to be bleeding and he does seem to be doing a lot of preening in that area.

If it starts bleeding you will need to pull out the remaining part of the feather shaft with a pair of forceps or tweezers.

As above. Look up avian first aid kits. These have items needed to remove blood feathers, stop bleeding etc. All packaged nice, neat and sterile.

I agree with the advice up post. Also keep an eye on the site for awhile, lest what remains become infected.

Thanks for all your replies. I already had a kit with powder and heavy glove to hold him if not cooperative. There is no bleeding and proud to report he rested normally last night and woke up his usual self.(y)

I always keep cornstarch around in case of blood feathers
My Caique had two back to back in the same spot on the tail it grew normal after pulling it

Thanks for the reply. I see now there is another one coming in. At least I know what it is and what I need to do if there is a problem. My "sun" keeps me learning and this forum is great for me.
