Parrots
i have a lovely male moustache parrot.
im on a two week holiday to the usa. im worrying about my parrot that is staying at a pet shop that offered to keep him while we were gone.
when we went to the pet shop before we left they put him in a cage that if he spred his wings they would touch both sides of the cage. i think thats a bit small, he has a huge cage at home and is out of it all day.
i hope he doesnt get to bored. i really hope they get him out and play with him, i wouldnt want him in there all day.
will this affect him? he is only 12 weeks old.
please let me know if this is a reasonable place to keep him, though it is to late coz im on the other side of the earth. i would still like to know.

thankyou

Danaan, Please don't worry i am sure your baby is in the best of care regardless the size cage he is in. When i care for someones parrot they are never kept in the size cage they normally live in. They cope very well especially when they have time out. If you have concerns just place a phone call to the Petshop to see if all is well.

Your main concern should be that your baby is in safe hands. Correct me if i am wrong but didn't you buy him from that shop???

I've had bad experiences with pet stores. Pet store staff often have totally no knowledge in caring for birds. That is ( coming from a quarantine maniac ) the WORST place to put him in. Who knows what diseases other birds have brought into the store? There is NO WAY I'd let my birds go to a pet store while I was away. I SHOWER between visiting pet store birds and mine and I doubt pet store staff would do that.

Poor Danaan is going to be beside themselves with that comment Ratzy. LOL.

I do believe the moustashe parrot was purchased from the same store so i very much doubt the little guy would be compromised in any way. Well i hope not anyway.

I would be cautious and look into the particular store,

A few years back I made the mistake of allowing a shop to care for my African Grey, I had a friend as I was in Jamaica take a look at the bird and it was in a cage that was almost small for a budgie. However our agreement was a large sized cage etc etc.

Long story short, my African Grey was emotionally upset and would not eat for nearly a week when back at home with us.

Store was liable for my vet bills / services (bird-sitting) / offered me a 500 dollar coupon which went into the garbage

good luck
