Pineapple GCC--still unnamed!
Hi guys! I'm new to the forum and new to my bird! She is a 3 month old GCC, and I've had her for about 3 weeks, but still haven't found the perfect name, haha.

My question is--the breeder told me she is a yellow sided GCC split to red (or yellow? --I can't remember for sure, but I think red), but after browsing tens of GCC pictures online, I feel like she looks more like a pineapple! Here are some pictures:

Most of the yellow sided GCCs I see online have black beaks, feet, and head. If not black, they seem at least dark grey. My GCC's feet and beak are bone colored, and her head is a pale silver/tan. Overall, her colors seem lighter than the average yellow-sided. On the other hand, her breeder would know better than me!

What do you guys think? Thanks!

Isn't that a Pineapple Conure? They're a combination of yellow-sided + cinnamon, lovely bird.

Wow, fast reply!

I think she looks like a pineapple too!

You're baby is a pineapple conure :)

I am a breeder of GCC and yes this is a Pineapple.

Looks like a pineapple conure!
Very sweet and pretty bird!

Yep, I'd agree with everyone else. She looks like a pinapple to me. She's very cute, love the little red bit on her chest.

Pineapple. My friend has one like this. They are so cute. I wanna get one ^^
And your baby is so pretty!

I also agree Pineapple. The light head and light beak are a give-away.

truste - Yellow sides do have light feet.

Psssst, don't say anything to your breeder, if she gave you a Pineapple for the price of a Yellow-sided then you made out good! :) She is pretty!!!

I have a yellow sided gcc and the top of her head and bach of neck are darker in color her feet and legs are light pinkish color she is about 6 mo old at this time .yours looks like a pineapple. beautiful colors congrats. I have also had mine about three or 4 weeks:D

I just went out to check Chiquitas beak and it is dark in color. Debsflock thank you for the links especially the one on the different gcc mutations I was just browsing thru it and I now have a headache. How on earth do they ever keep all the gentetic possibilities straight in their heads.? beautiful photographs however.:D

Wow, it seems like a pretty unanimous vote! Glad to know that my suspicious weren't unfounded!

I already contacted my breeder yesterday--sorry Echo!--and he's checking his records. I'm surprised that he didn't catch the mistake! Or possibly he just wanted to sell the bird, so when I came in asking to see the yellow-sided and he didn't have anymore, he showed me the pineapple hoping that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference? It worked! But little does he know, I'm just as happy with a pineapple!
:green2:

Bahaha! I've wondered the same thing myself. There's some pineapple chunks in the dried fruit mix I bought when I first got her...but she hasn't shown any interest so far. Possibly she was like, "how DARE you try to feed me those?"

But I LOVE pineapple--so the real question is...when I'm hankering for a midnight snack, will I be able to resist?!?!

Update: The breeder responded, after seeing the pictures I sent him, and going through his records that my bird is half yellow-sided and half pineapple (would that make her 3/4 yellow sided, as all pineapples are already half yellow sided?!?! This genetics stuff is confusing!) He said that she appears more like a pineapple, but isn't light enough to be a full pineapple. That corresponds to your comment about her being too "bright" to be a true pineapple, Debsflock!

Thanks for the help!

Truste, no that just means that she's a pineapple!

We are speaking mutations here, not species (not even going into the possibility of her being a hybrid).

If you were to breed a black lab [dog] to a yellow lab, all offspring would be black labs. If you paired these black lab offspring with yellow labs, you could get black labs or yellow labs, because the first generation offspring are split for yellow. Black to black is black. Yellow to yellow is yellow. Black split yellow to black split yellow can result in pure blacks, black splits yellow, and yellow offspring.

I think your breeder meant that she is both mutations. Both mutations are sex-linked, which means that if she carries the mutation, she is a visual. There is no half or maybe. She is or she isn't.

Now, if she were a male, that would be a different story... if males carry one gene of the mutation, they are split (like the black labs that carry the yellow gene). However, if they carry two genes that are the same, they are a visual (i.e. yellow lab).

Hopefully that makes some sort of sense!

Looks like a Pineapple.

My Rosie is a Pineapple, which looks very similar to yours. Like a Cinnamon, only with more vibrant reds and yellows, with more reds around the cheeks and up the front...
