Parrots
4 Lovebirds
Hello everyone!

I've been thinking about getting a baby cockatiel to handrear, but I'm unsure if it's a good choice. My second choice was to get a blue crown conure baby but they aren't as easy to find where I live. I also can't decide between a lutino cockatiel or a lutino cinnamon cockatiel since i love both colors!

Can someone please help me with the pro's and cons of getting a cockatiel?

Getting a Cockatiel is well worth the effort as they are commonly a very active, engaging Parrot. Getting a true baby is not a good idea as there has been serious behavior problems associated with Parrots that are purchased before they are fully weaned and on solid food for a mimim of two weeks, if not longer.

The current push style breeders that are sell chicks far too young based solely on Profits!!

Agree with Sailboat. Weaned chicks are just as easy to bond with. It is soooo tempting to choose based on color, but, if possible, ask the breeder to let you meet weaned chicks and see which baby you connect with the most.

Thanks for your advice. I have handreared 4 lovebirds before and they are perfectly fine. The one lovebird that i gor that was weaned already was actually the one isn't as affectionate as the others and he is quite aggressive. That's why i prefer handrearing my birds.

Hi! Just keep in mind, if the little one you wean considers you a parront, you may be rejected at maturity!
