Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
....for HORMONES???!!!!...Amy has become unpredictable and aggressive lately  :(..last week or so.
EVERY morning when I get in from work,I go right to the living room to say good morning to them. Lately, she is getting all poofed up.tail fanned, eye balls blazing. She will come to the bars, chomp hard on them, grab her rubber ball and chew that, and move back and forth. I talk sweetly to her, saying good morning, how are you,etc and put my finger in and skritch her cheek, rub her beaky and play with her toes. At times she'll lunge at me .
Yesterday I went to grab a tootsie of hers, and she managed to get her talons wrapped around my finger and hold on TIGHT! Ya I did mention she needs a birdicure...nail tip went right into my finger drawing blood.

Just a few minutes ago,she was sitting on the top rail of her chair, watching you tube vids...I had things to do in the kitchen so I asked if she wanted to join me..she just did her "huh?..huh?.." ( normal response) and I asked her to step up,to go on my shoulder. She stepped up fine, then all of a sudden, WHAM!!CHOMP!! that beaky of hers dug into my shoulder so fast and hard, and would NOT let go  Ouchie! :11:

You'd think I would know her by now...

Jim I woulda thunk mating season over for Amazons by now. Are you sure nothing else is new in Amy's life? Salty, who as you know is a mellow fellow, lost his s**t after his routine was heavily disrupted on Wednesday, biting Geri a good one.

I'm sure Amy wasn't biting you, just mad at the world maybe. I know I wake up like that sometimes, and want to bite something.

LOL on the biting something Al...

Nope, not a thing has changed in her/our routine..the morning meet and greet is an everyday thing and I make sure I go to her FIRST just so her beak doesn't get out of joint.

Well, if the females' season is anything like the males' (i.e., 365 1/4 days per year), it makes sense. Sammy's been uncontrollably hormonal, non-stop, for 18 months now.

In other words...I don't know that there IS an "off-season"!

Jim how old is Amy, again?

Mh434 - if it's nonstop, unless your being fascetious, it might be puberty, which knows no season.

Nothing hormonal behavior-wise from Kiwi, though in the late afternoon when it is super hot he can be a bit cranky (then again, so can I:D).

How old is your male? There is an off season for mature adult amazons, not so much for "teenage" amazons (amazons in puberty). Between about the age of 10-13 Kiwi was non-stop, year round hormones (probably prior to that even, we didn't adopt him until he was 10 and he was aggressive to his prior owners, hence being rehomed twice). It gradually began to taper off and get into a seasonal rhythm between 13-15 and now at 19 and the past few years, he's very calm during the whole year except a few weeks in late winter/early spring when his horns sprout again:D He also keeps his humping to himself and has picked up on our disinterest in his "displays":rolleyes::rolleyes: Every bird is different, of course, and I think Kiwi may have been on the severe end of hormonal behavior (that and serious trust/general lack of training issues) but in general, amazon puberty is a couple years of unpleasant behavior and then they start to mellow out into fully fledged adults who only have the urge to breed once a year. Keep going, you are not the only one and are not alone in what you're experiencing with your male zon, it's actually pretty normal! It looks as though your male is a YNA and they don't call the YNA/DYH/BFA's the "hot 3" for nothing:52:

Well, our Julio is being a happy guy with no signs of any seasonal effects! Now, back in February, he was a very different Amazon!

When our Amazon hit his - the Hormonal Wall, its back to basics and work back from the wall carefully to assure all fingers make it though the 'event.'
