Parrots
Baxter - Illiger's Macaw (hatch date 5.1.15);

Taylor - Black capped Conure (RIP 3.14.15 - miss you every day little "Girlie")
I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong...

I sent an email to Wendy at Wendy's Parrots a least a month ago and called her on Saturday leaving her a message indicating I was inquiring about her RFMs.

NO RESPONSE

I sent an email to another breeder last week who indicated email was the best way to reach them.

NO RESPONSE

I don't want to be bothersome and continue to call/email these people, but I really would like to speak to them about their birds.

Not sure how to proceed. Any advice? Is it typical for breeders to not respond? Do they want you to call/email multiple times to indicate you are serious about purchasing a bird?

Bothersome? I don't think they should feel 'bothered' in the least, especially if you are a potential customer.

I personally would call if you didn't get any email responses, as it's entirely possible your emails ended up in the spam folders before they ever had a chance to see them. :)

Funny I've had the same experience with her. I emailed last week asking about her red fronted macaws, no response. It was just a quick "what's your wait list like and how much are they" kind of thing. Since I'm not buying for a couple years so I have time so I'm not gonna actually call. But you aren't the only one to not hear back.

Makes me wonder if something is up (life wise) on her end. Her site does say she's moving this year.

Okay, chris-md, so it ISN'T just me! LOL!

I've been wondering, too, if she may be experiencing a personal-life issue (like her move to AZ). That's why I worry about being "bothersome". I'm not 100% sure that I will end up with an RFM because I'm concerned about its size. So, I want to be able to have a good discussion with her about everything RFM. She used to breed Hahns and Severes so I would like to get her perspective on the minis vs RFMs. If she isn't calling back, I'm concerned she may not have the patience for a longer discussion.

Then again, I won't know anything unless I call her again. If she isn't up for a more detailed bird discussion, she can just tell me that! Or not call back - LOL!

Wendy is in the process of moving from Texas to Arizona, so that may be what's going on with her. She's usually very responsive.

I'd stay away from severe's... I really would.

If you want a mini I'd go with either a Hahns or a YCM.

Hi Birdman - yes I am definitely staying away from the Severe - a one person bird just won't work for us!

And... my list is narrowed down to 3 birds... Hahns, YCM and RFM, just as you suggest. :)

I figured Wendy is usually very responsive since you recommend her so highly. I guess that's why I was wondering if I needed to be more persistent. Given your recommendation and based on her breeding/baby raising philosophy, I would only want to get my RFM from her. I wish she bred the YCM, too!

According to her web page she's got a couple of RFM's right now.

Yes, I saw that!

I was in the same boat, I left emails and VM's with probably 4 breeders, I only got one response and it was after I sent a more verbose introductory email. Turns out she was on vacation. I am not in a rush so it wasn't as urgent for me to get in touch with someone, but now I'm happily on a waitinglist with the breeder I was most interested in!

My friend from anther forum got a Blue throat from her . She said she is so into her birds that she takes awhile to get back to you . She went to her house and was impressed . I contacted her she did take awhile . But at least I had a heads up . I think its her way . Researched a lot of breeders for the Blue and gold Im getting in Aug. Its "Best Birds"in florida . Contact him by phone number.

DocConstantine - Do you mind sharing the name of your breeder and what bird you decided to get?

PinkBirdy - thanks for letting me know you did eventually speak to Wendy and see her home. I think I'm leaning towards a bird that she does not breed, but I'm going to keep her in mind (and will be sure to contact her repeatedly), if I change my mind (which is highly likely LOL).

Of course! I'm going with avian adventures aviary. I had a wonderful talk with her once she got back to me, it was as much a screening process for me as her! I will someday be getting a Hy, she didn't mention how long the wait list was, but I could be in for a long wait. I'm fine with the wait, because it'll give me time to slowly get all of the things I will need.
