Is $450 too much for a green cheek conure with his supplies?

I was planning on buying a 9 month old green cheek conure on craigslist. The lady that has him says shes going to be traveling a lot this year so she feels she has to re-home him. He comes with his cage and supplies, and has already been DNA tested. His price is $450 for everything, and I don't have a major problem with it, but i'm starting to think its overpriced. I talked to her, and made plans to pick him up on the 20th. I'm worried that if i question the price now that she'll be scared off. Also the cage isn't the biggest, and I was even thinking about buying him a larger one later on.

Hi there Shelby, and welcome to the forum.

I just did a quick search on Birdbreeders, and GC go for anywhere from $175-$500 (for rare mutations).

Here in IL I'd say yes, he is severely overpriced! I got mine for $250 from Petsmart, and the cage/some supplies was about $100 on the top of that (I got a very good used large cage off CL for $65). $200-250 is a normal CL price for a gcc with a cage/supplies.
Does she provide hatch certificate, vet records and everything else? I wouldn't buy a gcc for that price off CL.

First, welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy your stay.....

Second, it's too bad that you didn't find us before you decided to bu this little guy without looking first, but what might be in your favor would be where you live...green cheeks range from around $150 to about $350, depending on their selling price in your area.....

You could go to see the bird, having done your research & tell the seller that considering that green cheeks sell for $$$ in your area & given that the cage is on the smallish side (or other suitable reason), you are willing to offer $300 or $350.....you are there, you've seen everything...to the seller, you are an immediately potential buyer with $$$ in hand & if she's really interested in selling, your offer could be accepted or rejected, but if your offer is not really out of line, you should go home with your new feathered friend.....

Thanks everyone, she lives 2 hours away so it's not ideal to go visit and offer then. I'll call her and offer $350 and if she doesn't think it's reasonable I guess I'll have to look somewhere else.
