If all go's well, we should be bringing Mondo home this weekend. I wanted to ask ....
1. Should I introduce him to each Cat and Dog individually or just let them all discover each other on there own?
2. Do we start right away with training, or give him a few days or weeks adjust to new home? (same cage)
3. We have a wood burning fireplace, doesn't smoke up the house, but you can smell in the house when has been burned, would that be a problem?

Sorry to be a pest, but just need to learn a great deal in a short time, Mondo needed a home quick.

We have had many pets for there entire lives, loosing them is so sad. We are really looking forward to this long term commitment!:jumping40

Thanks!

I wouldn't introduce your cat at all :) . Once your bird is scratched or bitten by your cat, you need to go to a vet immediately for antibiotics else your bird will die. Cats have a bacteria on the claws and teeth that isn't present in a bird's body, and that kills them.

Thank you for the info!

we have a wood burning fireplace and never had a problem, bird is in same room~ I would let him settled in for a while, you will have plenty of time to start training!

well...one of our cats has been known to be a "hunter", he is now 15 years old, so a little tamer now. He saw Mondo the first time yesterday..he got that stare like he used to get when he had spotted something. He kept looking till Mondo said "What you doing" Buzz (the cat) took off scared to death. He stays away completely from the cage now.
Mondo saw the other cat looking at him, Kely was next to the cage, Mondo climed down to the bottom of the cage, bent over and went "here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty", He is such a blessing to have around, and just has been 2 days! I think I can see another bird down the road.:red1:

We have 2 cats, 2 birds and although under the same roof, play time is always seperate and the birds are never out unless cats have been safely put on the other side of the french doors that divides the main part of the house. My husband is very creative and handy, he added pexiglass around both cages to cover the bottom portion. I would never risk the chance of a horrible accident. Our Poncho boy loves to call out to them...Here kittys...Toulouse, Cherie, here kitty, kitty.

I have seen many Youtube videos of parrots playing or just sitting with a cat. I think the owner knows their cat and parrot and whether it is ok while supervising. There are some real special interaction.;)

That's a good idea, how far did he cover up? All the animals seem to be getting along, Mondo seems more confused about me than them! LOL. But still, we will never trust our cats not to revert back to instinct.

We used to have a very laid back cat that didn't really care much for the birds. However Gracie loved him! Every time he walked by her cage Gracie would meow at him. She would sometimes try to fly over to him (her wings are clipped) and when she landed the cat would just watch her and wouldn't even go towards her.

I would not trust my cats with my birds, they are being put up in a different room. Both cats were strays I rescued from outside. I felt bad for them, both were skin and bones and one was very ill probably wouldn't make it much longer if I hadn't taken her in. I posted one up for adoption and no one will take her and I left the cats together since they like playing together. I don't take the risk at all, however both cats are terrified of my macaw like the rest of the animals...lol....That's one of the main reason why I got a glass aviary for the other birds so nothing would happen. I've lost one bird already 3 years ago due to my stupidity, cleaning cages when my baby escaped and jumped towards me and the crazy sick dog I was caring for got a hold of him and killed him infront of me. The dog was very ill, but still had the instinct to go after birds. Just becareful when you introduce them to one another, try not to take any un-nessary risk. Don't be like me, I cried my eyes out when that happened....I put up a door to partition upstairs from downstairs so everyone have room to play in. Now days people still ask me to take more animals in, I have to say NO! Our hearts are too soft, but we've got plenty.
