Princess Peach would like to say "good morning (BNE time) Parrot Forums!"

I'm generally up at around the 0530AM mark to see my hubby off to work and prepare Lovejoy his breakfast, and being "winter" it's still a bit cold in the bird room so I wait for the sun to warm things up a bit before moving the birds back out there for the day. Peach starts eating immediately when I get up and makes a whole lot of morning mutterings that she just doesn't make at any other time of the day, and she just has the sweetest little voice! 💖

That's a whole lotta kissy sounds right there! Feeling the love ❤️

Yup, I'm very lucky I get to share LOTS of kisses with Peachie, but she still saves most of her lovin' for a certain rascally red-headed rooster! ❤️‍🔥

She clearly loves her girl time with you in the early morning hours!

Amazing photo of the gang spending time with Dad time

Love the photo with her sitting on Dad's head, I can all most hear her say, hmmm, the joy of warm feet.

The joy of the flock clearly shows!

Oh Uncle Boats, the "joy of the flock" is lovely for as long as it lasts! Sadly however, Lovejoy and Jem have decided in the last little while that they really don't like each other, so I'm having to be supervise them very carefully and manage their out-of-cage time too. Hopefully it's just a seasonal thing as varied lorikeets are autumn/winter breeders and Lovejoy is likely experiencing a rush of hormones which will pass, and sooner rather than later thank you cos the two of them really are a bit of a handful at present!

Oh so cute!!! I love those good night or good morning unique sounds they make! Ona always spends a good amount of time chatting to herself before bed and it is so stinkin cute! I just love Peachie and her kissy noises 😘

Fall /Winter Hormonal Games! So, which is a bit more pushy: Lovejoy or Jem or is it a draw at the moment with mom assuring somelevel of pease?

Hey, it is only a couple of months and then, with great hope, harmony will return (or something near that). :)
Well Uncle Boats, it's usually Jem who starts it, but it's ALWAYS Lovejoy who finishes it, cos lorikeets do NOT back down, irrespective of size!! Interestingly Peach will often insert herself in between and take a swipe at Jem in defence of her little red rooster. I am SOOOOOO looking forward to summer when it'll be too hot for anybody to be bothered fighting!

Seems everything's coming up "Barbie" these days, so why not Princess Peach!!

Ok, so you know how sometimes you walk into a shop meaning to buy one thing, and you come away with something totally different? Well, that happened to me just this last Saturday.

Hubby and i went grocery shopping, but before that we needed to go to the hardware store, which just happens to be right beside a pet store. Lovejoy needed some more lorikeet food, so we popped into the pet store to grab that, and in doing so we saw this ...

... a sweet little princess parrot with, horror of horrors, a single wing clip. I SO wanted to buy her on the spot, but for starters we already have a flock of four, and we'd need to buy her a new cage for which we really have neither the budget nor the floor space in our small house for, plus the extra vet bills and all sorts of other unknowable considerations. I left the pet store in tears, subsequently cried my way around the grocery store, and when I got home I spent the afternoon doing the maths and the geometry in my head, trying to think of ways to make it work, so that maybe I could find a way to be able to bring her home after all. Finally I decided, you know what, there are dozens of reasons why I shouldn't do it, but only one reason why I should, and that reason is pictured below. So may I please introduce you all to the newest and most unexpected member of our family, the very beautiful and completely adorable Princess Peach!!

It's only very early days, but she has slotted in with our existing flock very well, and she is already COMPLETELY besotted with Lovejoy!! She has been to my avian vet for a check up and has so far tested negative to a lot of health conditions that are fairly common in princess parrots here, but I'm still waiting on the results of a test for psittacosis which may take 3 weeks or so to come back. I am accustomed to getting results of that test within 24 hours but apparently the one and only lab in the world that made those tests doesn't make them anymore, and the remaining PCR test takes much longer to get a result. So as my vet is fairly sure she either has something lurking now or has had it in her recent past, for both her and the rest of my flock's safety we have started her on a 6 week course of antibiotic injections to combat anything current or lingering. I have also had her vet perform a feather implant procedure to restore her wing - shockingly enough she was able to fly pretty well even with that awful clip but she would never have been able to keep up with the rest of the flock and may have done herself a terrible injury had she tried to do so. Here's a pic of her having just had her implant done (with a BIG shout out to Dr Adrian and the team at Brisbane Bird Vet, they always do amazing work!) ...

... and another from today, with her wing restored!

Now, as to her name, naturally there's more backstory behind that too. According to the store, they sold her to someone else prior to me, and they were the ones who named her Peach. Apparently however, they returned her to the store because they were unable to "manage" her, I have no idea what they meant by that, perhaps it may have been because she is actually VERY NOISY for such a little bird. It's not constant screaming, but a very loud contact call is a feature of her species, so perhaps that was a factor. I've decided to stick with her name because it actually does suit her, and given her species it's pretty much inevitable that "Princess" would get tagged onto it. I *was* gonna leave out the Super Mario "Toadstool" bit but the more I think about it, that's pretty cute too! She's had a rough start to life, and I can't help but wonder if a certain other "Princess" might just have made me take a detour into that pet shop on Saturday, the whole thing certainly seems to have Lilly's magical little claw prints all over it ✨
she's beautiful!

Well it started off, as it often does, with Peachie getting a little frisky with her freshly washed veg, and then EVERYBODY decided it was bath time! Except Lovejoy who still hates the mist bottle, but I expect he'll throw himself in one of the water dishes soon enough :)

I LOVE Peachie's little sounds of enthusiasm in this one! 😍

And then it was the 'tiel's turn, but Peachie decided she wasn't quite finished yet!

The aftermath, Fang finds a warm spot in the sun to dry off in…

... and Peachie preens her pretty feathered suit back to immaculateness, with Lovejoy attending to her pedicure 💖

Peachie is such a bath hog!! 😂 She sure didn’t want to share that mist with anyone! Looks like everyone is all nice and clean. How can Lovejoy resist joining in? Silly boy.

Lovejoy did throw himself into a water dish not long after, in typical fashion once I'd left the room to make myself a bit of lunch. Perhaps he wanted to maintain his composure just long enough to give Peachie that pedicure - she does have VERY sweet little feets after all! 💖

It's unseasonably warm in Briz Vegas right now. Indeed it seems like spring may have already sprung, so I thought I'd see if anyone was interested in a nice cool shower. I got four out of five takers, everyone except Lovejoy who is STILL not the least bit interested in the squirt bottle, but I imagine he'll go for a dunking a bit later the moment my back is turned as per usual. Hope y'all enjoy Spa Day!! 😀

Awwwwwwwww, happy soggy birdies! Is there anything cuter than that? ♥️♥️♥️

Well if there is anything cuter, it's probably bird related as well ;)

It's really interesting, from what I read from other princess parrot parronts, they're either REALLY interested in bathing or they're REALLY not. Peachie fortunately falls very much into the first category, I've only got to reach for that squirt bottle and she gets right into it straight away. I like the way she often has a little snack while she's showering too, she's a real multi-tasker!

What a happy, clean flock! Peachy loves baths just as much as Ona! What water birds.
I'm so happy that all of mine are water babies! Keeps 'em clean, keeps 'em occupied with a bit of post-bath preening and keeps that featherage in tip top condition - win win win!!! 💝

I’m so late to this party! I. Love. Peach. Cue the Mario Bros song “peaches, peaches, peaches….” She’s so lovely, I adore her coloring. She needs to have a YouTube tutorial for birds who hate baths (ahem…calling on my grey Kokkie). This is some serious adorableness.

Belated congratulations!
