Hello everyone,
I've been reading so many posts on this site and decided I wanted to become a member too!
I am a mother of 3 human children, my daughter is 18, my sons are 12 and 13. I'm a school bus driver. I LOVE pets, we are loaded with them for sure Dogs, cat, fish, horses and of course our birds.
In late February of this year, I decided on a whim, I wanted a bird again after many years of being birdless. So I ran to the local pet store an hour away, walked in and there was a sad looking Lutino Cockatiel. The only one in the store. THEY said it was a male and that's exactly what I wanted. This poor bird had been in a tiff with another tiel, had a damaged blood feather and damaged wings, but he'd willingly step on your finger and was discounted so I brought HIM home only to discover within 24 hours that HE was most DEFINITELY a SHE and SHE absolutely fell in LOVE with my husband.
Okay, no problem, she's so sweet...we named her Chiquita. She tollerates me fine, but is definitely bonded to my hunny.
So a month goes by, we needed to pick something up from the pet store and there was the most homely looking baby tiel we'd ever seen. He fluttered his eyes at my husband and that was it, we brought him home. Wild as can be, wouldn't even sit on our finger for a second. Drew blood on my husband trying to get him in his new cage and was a total freak for weeks! I thought...oh dear :31:
His name is "Chicken Little" and oh what a wonderful tiel he's become! He talks so good, within 3 weeks he was saying...Pretty Pretty! Pretty Pretty! Pretty Pretty Pretty Pretty BIRDIEEE...whuh whooo...whuh whooo! Kiss Kiss Kiss. He now willingly gets on our finger and loves his time out of his cage and gobbles up the treats...broccoli is his most favorite.
Yesterday, I kid you not...I said, Honey we need to stop by the pet store for some teil food. This little...they call it..."fancy yellow sided green cheek conure." Absolutely stole our hearts! First thing, bob his head, roll on his back, reguritated and did a summersault. 'Nuff said?
Hubby said, we have to take him home. I said...okay, I'll go "halfsies" with ya for him And that's how we got Franklin....NO REGRETS! I've never had a Conure before, but I can already tell this bird is FABULOUS! He was hatched on March 15th, 2011 and was only at the pet store for 8 days.
My hubby had to make a stop before heading home after we bought Franklin. So I waited in the car and took him out of the box. He absolutely LOVED his car ride home. I know they say to give new birds some time to adjust...but Franklin is incredibly social and loves to interact. He was more scared in the dark box then being out in the car. He's very cuddly, loves his scratching and petting all over, and is a food HOG! ROFLOL!! We LOVE HIM!
So, this is my long introduction, with pictures, to this forum. I hope to meet some great bird lovers, get and give advice and have fun.
Thanks for reading all this and see you all around!
Toni
