I am having a difficult time with introducing 2 of my b&g macaws, spencer and joy have met and did pretty well didn't seem to care for one another, well my issue is rio and spencer:eek:
Rio is very social loves company and has been wanting to meet spencer for weeks! Spencer seems as if he wants to also but my issue is he has no feathers except his tail and wings. Im terrified that rio being a baby and playful might hurt him because he has no protection. Shes only 1 1/2 and he's 13 she is extremely playful and is a beak on kinda girl. Do you think it would be okay to set them on a perch out of their elements? Ahhhhh I need guidance lol! I want them to meet but don't want my nudest getting hurt!:blue1::blue1::blue1::white1::rainbow1:

This is how I introduced Niko & Ripley: Their cages are next to each other, and in the beginning I would take turns taking them out and placing them on a double wide Java tree. Niko was here first. He was a little over 3 when I got Ripley. Ripley was 1 1/2 when I brought him home. So for the first week I did not let them interact together.

Then I got brave and first placed Ripley on the double wide Java and then Niko on the other end. Niko was the one who was afraid, because he hadn't been around another Macaw since he came home with me at age 4 months. I was VERY lucky as none of them ever showed any aggression toward the other one. They do the occasional tail yanking, but that's the extent of it.

Today, 6 months after bringing Ripley home, I saw Niko preening Ripley's head. It was a Kodak moment, but of course my camera was upstairs. :)

I'd say be VERY careful, and try and read the body language of both birds. Be ready to intervene if you have to. And good luck. :)

I had them cage by eachother, they would try to touch beaks through the bars:) never seen them be agressive to one another spencer gets really flirty rio just wants to play, she's was very socialized with birds her and joy love being together but we do have an occasional beak clashing and tail pulling moment. When we go to the bird store for their groomings rio gets full run and has to visit every bird:) It just worries me because spencer doesn't have feathers especially his chest and legs so if we have a fight she can shred his skin in an instant! Thank you for your advice! Ill have to try it and put the fear asside:)
