- Bertie, scaley breasted lorikeet, 2007-2013, still miss you, chick. Cheeky, yellow sided green-cheeked conure, 2013-
Hello All,
Cheeky, the yellow sided GCC, finally arrived last week, after a seven hour car trip ... courtesy of the breeder and a kind friend (I have chronic fatigue syndrome and a disabled husband, so not able to go myself).
He is a sweetie and my first conure. He had been well hand reared and was tame and friendly ... got excused for a few nips the day he arrived! A week later he is well settled in, steps up an down etc and can do two simple trick - I got touch and clicker training going straight away.
He is enjoying his cage with the bars just the right width (how would I have know if Mudkips hadn't measured Birdy's head ??!!) He likes his play gym too - I actually ended up making him a new one, based on a small tree that had died as a result of a bush fire (but not charred). Thank you all for your help in getting his setup right as I had no experience of conures. And for all the other stuff that I researched ... food, pellets (and hurrah! I found one importer who had Roudybush in Australia), games, training etc.
Being able to acces the fund of knowledge and help from the Forum has made it all so easy for me.... so a BIG THANK YOU to the moderators and for for those who originally got the forum going. I was so upset when I lost Bertie my scaley breasted lorikeet hen a few months ago that I really needed help to get set up with another bird ... and one that I knew nothing about ... hadn't even seen one.
I had hoped to put some pics of Cheeky on this post, but have discovered it doesn't work on an IPad. I have made an album for him and also for Bertie, if you would like to check them out.
