Hi everyone!

I adopted brad 3 days ago, for the majority of his life he was well loved but for the past 3yrs he has not been taken out the cage and is very aggressive now.
I am going to help him gain his confidence back and show him love again.
I am excited about this!
Any advice on tips, food or training will be awesome!

Hi Cole and welcome to the forum to you and Brad. Sounds like Brad is in good hands. Terry and Plumsmum have given you some great links to info that will help get you started because a good diet is half the battle ...if he doesnt eat veggies for you straight off dont worry just keep them on your menu. After throwing out 5 months worth of veggie meals my guy that I got last Jan is only now beginning to eat a few veggies so just never say never and even though he may refuse them just keep the veggies on offer because one day he just may start to eat them. In the meantime birdie bread stuffed with veggies is a sneaky way to get the required vitamins into their diet. The other tip I would give is to devellop a routine and stick to it...routine gives them security. 3 rd tip I would give is start to work a training session with your bird from day 1...this doesnt have to be a step up yet although it can be that too but some birds arent readily stepping up or wanting to step up on day 1 they see you as a Giant and they dont know you are a friendly Giant so you have to prove to them that you deserve their trust. So perhsps training session for day 1 for a shy or angry parrot could be to read them a short story or a page of a story with interesting intonations in your voice and reward the birds interest in you with a treat and praise . Best of Luck with Brad you will make a Great Parront :)
Edited to add 4Th tip whic is to make sure your Brad gets a good nights undisturbed rest as a tired parrot is a cranky parrot and sometimes an angry Parrot.

Hi and welcome to you and Brad. Thanks for adopting. Some helpful tips and information here. What kind of bird is Brad? When it comes with birds sometimes, patience is a virtue, the way to their heart is through their stomach and a well-rested bird is a happy bird.

Welcome Cole and Brad! Thank you for adopting Brad, sounds like he was in need of a friend and a helping hand! We'd love to see a photo of your new friend.

Welcome Cole! Many species will readily adapt and easily reward your attention. Others are not as trusting and require more work.

Please let us know the species and age for better advice!!
