Green cheek
Hi! I have a green cheek conure that got injured when she fell on the ground. She is not able to bend her long front toe. I took her to the vet and they said she either had a torn ligament/tendon or small fracture but there was nothing they could do and that it might be non-functional. They gave her some anti-inflammatory medication and that has helped her with her pain.

It’s been a month now but I’m still holding onto hope that it will heal and be functional again so she can be her happy self again. Has this happened to anyone and have you seen improvements?

Toe injures are very common. It may not heal to normal but toe injuries do heal to (apparently) painless and the birds life isn't affected much. I have one budgie that injured a toe and the toe fell off after a week and he's fine. I have another budgie with both feet deformed at birth. The larger back toes on both feet flip under and forward nails pointing up. She's does fine but can't grip the perch as well.
Your birds toe many never work properly but she still has one front toe and two on the other foot so she will adjust.

She will be happy again, with or without that toe working properly!

Thank you for that. I’m worried because she still is tired. She plays around sometimes but she is more tired than usual. And now she has balance issues since that one toe isn’t working properly so I guess I’m overall really worried about her. I’ve never been in a situation like this before and I hope I’m doing everything correctly.

You're doing the best you know how. That is obvious. And bless you for that!
She might be more tired because she is dealing with the balance issue and pain.

She will adjust and adapt to the balance problem. My avian vet told me that when I brought my baby budgie with deformed feet in. Shes doing very well but will never be a as stable on the perch as normal. If you're still concerned about her being lethargic I wou
ld bring her back to the vet.

I have a budgie with a non functional back toe due to a torn ligament. The vet said to make sure he has soft/wrapped perches as he sits wrong and puts pressure on the wrong part of his foot. He said even wrapping the flat perch would be good. No dowels. He has one on his swing but doesn't hang out there for long periods of time. He has a little red spot that needs watching from foot pressure. Vet said it's okay as long as it doesn't open. He gets around okay but does get into trouble landing sometimes and needs to be rescued.

I have cockatiel that has as dislocated back outer toe. He cant grasp with it real well but it doesnt affect him one bit.
