Indin ringneck parrot has redish iris

His name is Tiki, we have him for about 7 days, he is 6 months old and is playful and happy, hand fed, really energetic and fascinated by everything. I'm no expert but at first we thought he wasn't sleeping or that he was tired. He seems to be afraid of the dark so we leave a little nightlight for him so he feels comfortable and falls right asleep ( the nightlight is not the problem I'm 100% sure, its not bright and not even close to his cage ) So I'm wondering is he okay? Is this normal for this parrot species? I just hope he is okay!!!

Oh thank god Tnq all for the information and that is a beautiful parrot! One more question about clipping his nails? They are getting super long and hurt when he walks over us. Do they clip them themselves or? Is there a good way to do it?

Haha! I know, I've had my first bird for nearly 3 years now and I still freak out over the little things. And thank you! Don't let Shiko know you think that though, otherwise it'll go to his head... he compliments himself enough [emoji39]

Birds don't really regulate their own nails in a domestic situation unless you provide them a way to do it. I suggest investing in a pedi perch (please be sure to use it properly though!). Otherwise I suggest going to an Avian Certified veterinarian and having them show you how to clip the nails properly.

Please do NOT clip the nails by yourself without knowing how or without the appropriate materials. Birds have such little blood in their bodies that a misclipped nail can cause them to bleed out and die if it doesn't clot or isn't forced to clot by styptic.
