Parrots
I have a Red Winged Amazon. He is very stuborn about what he will eat and I can't find a food that he will eat! He wont eat seed except sunflower. he likes peanuts and casuse.
I need to find a place where I know that he will be watched after untill he finds his forever home. He is in my will, and when he does find his forever home, He receives $5000 to take care of him for the rest of his life.
Clyde is not an easy parrot to get close to. He attacks anyone that gets near me, and it is a violent attack. When I got him 5 years ago, he had been kept in a back room and ignored except for giving him food and water. The woman that was his mom used to spend alot of time with him and for some reason (I don't understand) that all changed and for 3 yrs. he was left in the back room and if he made any noise, they would cover his cage.
It only took me 2 days to get him to trust me and I could bring him out to visit, but he wouldn't even let his former mom to touch him or me. One time, she was standing by the cage and trying to talk to him and be friendly and he sqwaked and jumped on her head, dug his tallens into her hair and bit her head 5 or 6 times befor I could get him off of her. She was bleeding pretty bad.
I've spoiled him rotten since I've had him. He has 2 cages; 1 in the kitchen for day time, and one in the bedroom for night time when it's time for all of us to go to bed (all includes my 2 dogs and 2 cats). I pretty much give him the run of the house. I never close the cage door (unless he's in time-out or we have company). He comes and goes as he pleases and that's usually following me all over the house. He runs pretty good to catch up with me. We are very close as you can see, and he needs someone with a big heart and alot of patients.
If you know who or where my family can take Clyde, please let me know. I'm trying to get my affairs in order. I have COPD and PTSD with accute anxiety attacts. I'm afraid I might have a heart attack or a stroke before I get this done and my sister would just take him to an animal shelter.
If you could get me any info... I know that you all know how deep the love you can have for your babies, I just want to be sure that he will be okay.
Thanks.

That is some how touching and sad. I'm sure someone here will help. I am tempted but I'm all the way in Texas and I have no experience with zons.

PS with the cash involved some may take him just for the mmoney. Is it set up as a trust or in some way to help be sure it is just used for him? And revokable if they don't keep him

Hey Clydes Mom, welcome to the forum. I take a limited number of rehomes (no ,i can't take in Clyde) and sanctuary(forever homes) amazons. I'm sure there's several "sanctuarys" , that don't adopt, sell, trade, etc, that would take him for the 5K. They are different from a 'rescue" that does "rehome' parrots. I would say that he'll need the 5K for vet bills in the future due to his diet. I've taken in several zons like Clyde (seed diet) and spent much more than 5K on them trying to save them from VitA defenciency that helps end their shortened lives.never meet a zon who wouldn't switch to a fresh food diet. Lots of good threads here in the forum about switching your zon to a better diet.

Hi, I am very sorry to hear of your circumstance, and sincerely wish the best for you and beloved bird Clyde.

I am so sorry to hear of your situation. I think it is wonderful that you are making sure that Clyde will be taken care of when you no longer can. I hope you are able to find the perfect place for him.

My zon eats just about everything. She's a birdie trash can.

I'm really glad you are trying to figure this out in advance and wish you luck.

Some day I want to have a sanctuary for circumstances like this... :( So sad... I need to figure it all out what will happen to all my birds should something happen to me... My husband knows my wishes but I feel like his mom would push him to just sell them...

Make a WILL . Register it with the Clerk of Court. Make a couple copies. Give to people you trust. You can do a will just for your bird .
