So the passed two days, My amazon been coming out of the cage and being very social towards me letting me rub his head outside the cage. He has met me and my wife at the same time and my wife spends more time with him but he continues to lunge at her but then will sing with her but when it comes to petting he lunges or walks by the cage? How do I fix this situation and also why do you think he acts like that towards her?.

parrots can be protective of csce and their areas ...
Parrits can pick a person s d only that person can touch them ( pet) but tgey can be taught to be respectful of everyone.

He lets my wife pet him inside the cage but outside only lets me but he’s very energetic when my wife talks to him but when it comes to petting outside it’s a big no for him

Its very early days yet. Trust is built in layers. You can sit side by side on couch and pet together or pass back and forth when he is chill and relaxed. Praise and bribe. If flighted do in house recall training to burn energy.

Its very early in your relationship with him, he is still making his mind up about everyone in his new family. In this time, its important not to try and rush things. Always work at your parrots pace and not at the pace of your expectations.

It would be a good idea for your wife to be the one who administers his topmost ultimate treat, every time she passes the cage, or picking him up; just every time. That will go a long way to making friends with him. She may not wind up being the fav person, but it will help, a lot. Both of you should read the Amazon Body Language thread in the Amazon sub-forum. Read it out loud to your Amazon, they love being read to.

Your both at the beginning of a long and beautiful life with your Amazon, take the time to smell the roses with him.

Update: day 6, my amazon loves coming outside of his cage. I can tell he’s getting real comfortable but not to much when it comes with coming on my arm. He sometimes stretches his arms like he wants to go on my arm but I get nervous that he may bite. But today I let him reach his head to my long sleeve, he grabbed onto it but more like using it to chew like he was testing my arm. Is that a sign that he wants to go on my arm but is still a bit nervous ?
