So i have been looking out for suitable trees to hack up for perches when i get another bird and there are a HEAP of radiata pines around. I keep thinking to myself i cant JUST use pine, how boring! But then i wondered is there actually any benefits to having a variation of different types of trees for perches? I like to have a rope perch as well as plenty of wood ones of different shapes and sizes.

Also on a side note does anyone know anything about Macrocarpa (Monterey cypress)? I cant seem to find anything much about it online but there are a few around with some really cool shaped branches...

I've never noticed any benefit to using different types of wood, unless you're after a certain quality (soft, hard, bendy, etc). It's really the texture and width of the perch that matters :)

I know that most cypress wood is safe, but I'm not sure about that species in particular, sorry.
