I have a canary! I hope that's okay! I just want to make some friends with some other bird lovers.
Hi peoples,

Sorry- I'm not exactly my normal fluffy self today. I hate shopping. Loathe it. I have enough to do without trying to decide on a new cage for Candi. The one we have now is just getting so disgusting I don't like having it around my daughter anymore. I found this site that helped sort them for canaries, but there are still way more choices than I can sort through  Is there a certain size or style all you canary Moms and Dads recommend? I'm going kinda crazy- Lol.

Really, any help to make this easier on me would be greatly appreciated so that I can get it over with as quickly as possible and go back to watching cartoons with my little one! If you know of any coupons or super good deals, Momma doesn't mind saving a little money here and there either. Thank you loves!

Oh , i'll look. I got my canary cage from my avian vet, because the one i had was too small for him to really enjoy. I needed something wide enough so he could fly back and forth a lot. Ideally, i would get an even larger one but i don't have THAT much extra space!!

i like those 'elegant style flight cages'. they are pricey though. my canary cage is about 30 inches wide, but kind of a flimsy cage overall (unlike Gilbert's heavy duty cage).
the cage i have is similar to this, but wider: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Prevue-Hendryx-Flight-Green-Black/dp/B005VEWAL2/ref=sr_1_4?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1363899462&sr=1-4&keywords=prevue+flight+cage]Amazon.com: Prevue Hendryx Flight Cage, Green and Black: Pet Supplies[/ame]

Hi and welcome! I don't have a canary, I have finches, but in general finch like birds prefer cages that are longer than they are tall. They like to fly side to side, so having a wider cage is better. I have this one from petco.

I really like it, it has a side door for a nest, and a big double door in the front. It also comes with two perches and two dishes. You may want to buy stackable cages in case you get another canary. Canaries enjoy the company of other birds. even if they only share a room they can sing to each other. Good luck :)
PS we would LOVE pictures of your canary!

I would get the longest cage i find that the little birds that like to fly in the cage use more length than the height. I would also check to make sure the bars have a strong enough gauge. I have a flight cage where the bars are weak and it would be nice to use a wood perch however, the bars are not strong enough the perches either fall or turn, at one point i had a bar pop off the solder because of this. I ended up only being able to use plastic or rope perches.

Thank you!! Are you talking about this one? There are a couple that are named elegant style. If so, that's not too pricey; I can handle that.

Ann: The petco designer cage link wasn't working for me? I'd love to see your suggestion though. Can you try it again?

ruffledfeathers: I definitely appreciate the help! Forgive me for asking, it just seems like a $70 cage might not be constructed too well. I definitely want to get something that will last. How long have you had yours for? Is it well built?

Thank you again everyone so much! You are making this so easy on me and I couldn't be more grateful :D

Mine is not well built but I have had it for eight years. It is more a pain to clean because it is less sturdy. If you are good with the price of the elegant cage then go for it. You will be happier in the long term. I don't regret the really nice parrot cage either!

I have wanted to get a nicer cage for Pepe at times too, but he is happy in that one. I got that inexpensive one because at the time i had Leonardo, the canary i bought because he was sick and i felt sorry for him. For a while he was going for weekly vet visits and i honestly knew he wouldn't live long but wanted him happy. That cage gave him space to move around, fly, swing, etc, but didn't cost me that much. Then i completely cleaned it and Pepito moved in and was happy there, and it just became his home (cheesy or not, LOL)

I've always really loved those cute little "house" shaped cages in all the lovely colors. I just haven't ever had a bird small enough to fit in one :-( The big bird cages are so ugly IMO, so your really lucky you get the option of something with a little more style for your bird! I think this would be a lovely home for a canary, especially since it's yellow (and the price is good too!)- Prevue Pet Products Shanghai Yellow and White Parakeet Cage Yellow White | eBay
