catalina macaw for sale (price was reduced) | Orlando | eBay Classifieds (Kijiji) | 8214826 what do you know, the link really works. I saw this ad last week and contacted the owner, who is rehoming him due to not having enough time to spend with him. I love Catalinas. I think out of all the Macaws, they are the prettiest or at least to me anyway. But you see what I mean when I say that in my area, you can get a fairly tame Macaw for around $500.00-$600.00. The owner was even willing to demonstrate how tame this bird is and was eager for me to make the trip over, which is like a 30 miles drive for me so that the bird could meet me and see how we got along before the sale.

Unfortunately, the person whom I have shared a house with for 36, soon to be 37 years (unless if I bring home this bird home) doesn't particularly want a Macaw. They scare her. I was hoping to at least get her to take the drive with me to meet Catie as I call the bird. But she says yeah right, you've already given the bird a nickname. My Senegal is nicknamed Cutiebug. Oh well, I guess it never hurts to dream.

The Catalina here is way above that price. There was a lady that wanted to trade me her Catalina for my saltwater tank, but my partner said no to that as well...lol.... her husband is allergic to birds they later found out....

And for just $100 more I'm including a cage (which I priced new at around $500) his toys and food. Hmm. Somehow this fails to prove your point very well. Hannibal is fairly tame with other people too. Its only me he bullies around.

That said, it would be nice if you could get your housemate to go and meet the bird. She's very beautiful and she might be a perfect match.

When I met Harley, my ex boyfriend's blue and gold, I was dead set against him bringing home another bird. He already had a cockatoo which hated me and an alexandrine that you could look at but not touch. He'd tried to soften me up by getting me a chattering lory (which I adored) but there's a huge difference between a wee bitty little lory and a big ole macaw.

He talked me into going with him just to look at the bird. He promised not to bring him home unless I was 100% okay with it. Within 5 minutes of me sitting down on the couch, Harley strutted over and started climbing my leg to get into my lap.

I froze. Scared to death. Begged Steven to please get that bird off of me. Steven tried to get Harley to step up and Harley bit the snot out of him. He got into my lap, cuddled up against me and stretched his wings across my torso while inclining his head for scritches.

I love animals so of course I couldn't resist such a sweet entreaty. It was love from that moment on. Now I realize that my experience with Harley was a very special case and in reality I'm not dominant enough to train a macaw. My point is, sometimes there's an instant click. If you could get your housemate to meet this bird, you might have a similar experience.

He comes with his toys, cage & food for nearly a year. I'm still trying. If I were any where around Alabama, I would try and get her to visit your bird. I also love Green Wing Macaws. Ahhhhh, who am I kidding, I love them all.

The Hybrid Macaw is pretty, the cage they are in is very small for a Macaw. My 13 inch Eclectus has a cage twice the size as the one in the picture. I wonder how often this Macaw is outside the cage. A Macaw in such a small cage maybe cage agressive. MY Eclectus is in a King's cage four feet wide, 5 feet high, 3 feet deep. My Green Wing is in a 8 foot high, 6 foot wide 4 feet deep cage. Macaws need lots of room and need to be outside the cage no less then 3-4 hours per day. They must be able to bond with you and remain social or you will have lots of issues to deal with down the road.
I would strongly advise you to visit this Macaw lots of times, really get to know this Macaw and let them get to know you. I agree, it could be love at first site or this relationship may take lots of time, depending on the Macaw. Please also keep this in mind, Macaws are sometime one person birds as are many Parrots. Your other half may not get the chance at all to bond with them. this could be a good thing or bad thing. Whatever you decide, I hope the best for you and a 30 min drive is nothing. I used to visit both my Eclectus and GW Macaw when they first hatched all the way until I picked them up to bring them home. This was after 8-9 months and a 6 hour drive from MD to southern VA. God was i crazy or what. We do stupid things for our birds don't we. Joe

I almost came home with a just weaned Catalina a few years ago. We went to visit a breeder, just to "look" and almost came home with him. What a cuddle bug that big baby was, but I just didn't have the space for one at the time. Very pretty birds though.

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I saw the cage in the picture. I knew right off that there would also be another $500.00 or so investment in a new bigger cage. They saw the bird is 6 years old and by the looks of the cage, I would say it;s probably the original cage that came with him. The owner told me that her and her husband work long hours so I would have to say that the bird is in the cage most of the time.

A used cage could probably be found cheaper on craigslist. But $600.00 is quite an investment to cheap out on a used cage. I'm very leary of buying used cages to put your bird in. Yes they can be cleaned and disinfected, but how well.

What a beauty! So this is a roommate? or wife? LOL I know how I can be with my husband but I also know that reguardless of what I bring into the home we do not threaten one another with leaving if we do something such as bring another animal into the home. If this is something you really want there has to be a compermise...

I got a used Cagesbydesign.com cage from a woman for $300! Talk about LUCKY! It's 48x48x36 which is fine until my husband and I build our cage we plan on building in a year or so. Gives me time to save for the expensive acrylic sheets.... My baby i just got for mothers day was 575.00 @ 5 weeks old from a breeder in Port St. Lucie. The wife even met me half way. It was cool. Jessie is doing very well might I add... If all goes well I will be getting a Catalina in a few years and THAT"S it.. Well after my GAC... LMAO Once you start you just can't stop... So NOW I'm planning and making a bird room in our house we purchase.

Well, it's my room mate/wife/significant other. We've been married for 36 years, soon to be 37 years unless I keep pushing the bird issue. hahahahahaha

There was a fellow in Orlando that I spoke to that has some Scarlet Macaw babies less than two weeks old that he wanted $600.00 for one. But they weren't weaned and if they were weaned he would have to ask $900.00, which is a steal for a Scarlet. I told him that I have never hand fed a bird, he said no problem, I'll show you. But when I asked if there was the normal 72 hour health guarantee on a non-weaned bird, he started back stroking. So I told him thanks, but no thanks.

Scarlets are very pretty, but I don't think have as easy going personality as the Blue & Golds. I hear Catalinas have the best trates of the two.

well not to get personal but if you've been married for almost 37 yrs im sure a bird wouldnt end the marriage. AND if it honestly would then im not sure how strong the marriage honestly is. I MEAN NO OFFENSE! I would be weary about buying a scarlett at that price from anyone let alone at 2 weeks! I am scared about having my B&G at 5 weeks... but He is doing just fine. I have hand feed twice before.. but lovebirds are much different than blue and golds.... LOL Any UNWEANED bird sold does not have the 72 hr warrenty as far as im aware.... but you just have to see the birds living conditions and get references from previous buyers... TheBestbirds.com the guy's name is Mark... He does the 72 hour even if you buy an unweaned baby. BUT I would not follow his handfeeding directions.. as he feeds from right to left and left to right.... which i dont understand... but anyhow... I was always under the empression that you hand rear from left to right and a 90 degree angle which is what i do and the birds i hand reared are still alive... lol well i suppose so r his.. but who knows anyhow he sells all of them catalina, b&g, scarlett, gac, toos much more.... been in business for over 25 yrs if i remember right...

When we went to visit a breeder in FL, the same guy who had the catalina, told me something I will never forget when I asked him the difference between B&G and Scarlet, besides color. He said, "A scarlet will always bite at some point in its life. No matter how its raised. It always will. A B&G is less likely, and have better personality." Some people may disagree, but that has always stuck with me.

Mike, you can visit www.kingcages.com or google them, King cages come in all different sizes, shapes, materials and colors. Even stainless steal, For a Macaw size cage, one would expect to pay anywhere from $1200.00 to $1600.00, For My Eclectus, I believe i paid somewhere around $1000.00. I would highly advise anyone who wants a great cage to check them out, they are completely made bird safe and all welds are very strong. Neither one of my boy in the past years have not even put a scratch on them. the finish they use is also very easy to clean, Although, i do have my secrets for fast cleaning,
I take towels that are about to be washed, Soak them in Hot water with Lemon juice, Then I remove my boys, take the towles and drape them all over the inside of the cages, perches. Let them soak a good 20 min or so, them wipe clean, this takes approx 15 min per cage to complete after the soaking period is done. Try it and let me know how this works out for you. Thanks Joe

Being married for that period of time means compromise and plenty of it. She compromised a bit when I brought Tiki Our Senegal in January after our 14 year old Black lab passed away. She wasn't really wanting a bird. But agreed to getting our Senegal. No, she wouldn't give me the boot or anything, but I would prefer it to be a mutual agreement. I think that is where a lot of the bird re-homing issues come in. One family member wants or gets a bird to the dismay of the other family members and within a fairly short period of time the bird gets displaced or re-homed hoping to keep the peace in the family.

My wife finally agreed to get an Africa Grey (NO MACAWS), but there was some stipulations. Now when we go on vacation our Nephew watches our Senegal Tiki. But if we get another larger bird that will not be possible since we would have to transport both to his home, which is like 40 miles away. Plus he told me he has no problem watching Tiki, but didn't feel like he wanted to watch a second and more bigger bird.

That can and will become an issue since my wife mother is 81 and live in the Virgin Islands and her health is failing. So if she has to go at the spur of the moment, I will have to stay home and take care of the birds. She doesn't like leaving me alone because I have an inoperable heart condition.

So I can understand her view on the issue. So at least I made a little head way and the second bird situation:D

Nice Mike! I agree with you 100% on the 50-50 and mutual agreements of animals being brought it. I wouldn't just randomly bring in another animal without my husband okay. It would bring distress to our home and mess with the harmony of it. Marriage is definitly about compromise and lots of it as you said. My husband is in love with our baby Blue and Gold! yay! Im so very sorry to hear about your mother in law... and your heart condition.. I'm so very sorry! When I go into labor I will have to find someone to watch my babies.. I think I will have the breeder I bought my lovebird from watch them.. If not then hubby will have to go bck and forth from the hospital until they discharge us. Ah I rather him be home with the kids anyhow.. LOL Better than having a 5 yr old and 11 mo old in the room /w a newborn and my hubby and me. Talk about crowded! Im glad your working out the situations before they occur rather than have the bird and have an OH **** happen.. LOL

I have been married two years and have already talked my husband into two dogs and a parrot. lol. He also promised that when he retires out of the Coast Guard that I will be able to have horses again. Win!

It is hard for me to live on my own, every animal I see I want to take in. I would be a hoarder be it not for my husband. haha

Your still honey mooning, my wife could get just about anything she wanted out of me within the first couple of years. But after the first 10, the honey moon is definately over with. Then after the first 25 years, I started adopting the attitude "It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission".

hahaha Mike your awesome... you make me laugh! I have been with my bf for almost 5 yrs.. best friends for - 6-7 yrs total... just married Feb 2011. I honestly believe we went through ALL of our hardships in the beginning... LOL seems as if we will be honey mooning it for the rest of our lives... LOL LUCKY ME!
@Skycon -we should get together sometime.. Have a parrot party! LOL I did animal rescue for 7yrs... Taking a break from it now.. But if you love animals so much why not do that?
