Im soo tempted to get a GCC instead of a tiel

But I think they would be too loud and I have already done a lot of research on tiels.

I used to have a female cockatiel and she was LOUD. Almost as loud as my sun conure. Yet I have never met another cockatiel so loud. I am currently currently caring for my bf's mom's two female tiels and they are fairly quiet.

It's a tough decision. I have encountered many GCC and they all were such cute little clowns! However, I know from experience that cockatiels make great pet birds!

Are cockatiels really THAT dusty? My mom has allergies to dust.... But I have researched so much about tiels, not conures, and conures are much more expensive in my area....

Conures will be more expensive probably anywhere. I know where I am a tiel is $120 on average and a conure is $400. The lifespan of a conure is much longer though, perhaps double if well cared for. So you have to factor that in as well. I would recommend expanding your searches to out of state bird shelters as well, as you can get some good deals through those. Sometime they will have problem birds but often people will dump a parrot for stupid reasons like they are loud or they want too much attention (well, duh!). Driving 100 miles out of state doesn't seem like a big deal to get a companion for the next 20 years of your life.

I didnt even think of their life span!

GCC are the devil... LOL! ;)

I saw that, but I live in Maine, which is quite far away and I dont think I'd have the money for shipping. I think if I get a GCC it will be a "used" bird, because of expense and life span...

Yes, consider driving to a big city. Seen some normal GCC for $90 in AZ and would think other big cities will have lower prices too.

Also, bird shows typically sell VERY cheap babies & since it sounds like you have no other birds you wouldn't have to quarantine your new family member.

This is such a hard decision!!!! I think cockatiel would be best as the expense of GCC and I know a lot more about tiels. But as I said before, if I fall in love with a conure, I might end up with him.

How much were you planning to pay for a tiel? I guess I was shocked that someone would sell GCC babies for $100. I usually don't see tiels for much less than that. Again, this is an animal you'll have for 10-20 years or more, so I personally wouldn't worry myself over $20 or whatever the difference is. Once you get them I don't think the expense will be too much different for care.

Yes, that certainly is a great price! I got my baby for $200 and even that's a bargain around here!

I am planning on $120 for my tiel and the cheapest GCC I could find around here is $200.

I'm the one selling the GCC babies :-). I really wish there was a way we could get him/her to you! You sound like a home that I want for my babies! Maine is at the minimum (I think) a 10 hr drive! Darn!
