I have a solution.
Get Both.
LOL. I would have one of every bird in the world if it was possible!

But I think they would be too loud and I have already done a lot of research on tiels.
Are cockatiels really THAT dusty? My mom has allergies to dust.... But I have researched so much about tiels, not conures, and conures are much more expensive in my area....

Conures will be more expensive probably anywhere. I know where I am a tiel is $120 on average and a conure is $400. The lifespan of a conure is much longer though, perhaps double if well cared for. So you have to factor that in as well. I would recommend expanding your searches to out of state bird shelters as well, as you can get some good deals through those. Sometime they will have problem birds but often people will dump a parrot for stupid reasons like they are loud or they want too much attention (well, duh!). Driving 100 miles out of state doesn't seem like a big deal to get a companion for the next 20 years of your life.
How much were you planning to pay for a tiel? I guess I was shocked that someone would sell GCC babies for $100. I usually don't see tiels for much less than that. Again, this is an animal you'll have for 10-20 years or more, so I personally wouldn't worry myself over $20 or whatever the difference is. Once you get them I don't think the expense will be too much different for care.
I'm the one selling the GCC babies. I really wish there was a way we could get him/her to you! You sound like a home that I want for my babies! Maine is at the minimum (I think) a 10 hr drive! Darn!
