I'm nuts, right?

That's what we did before we got Pepper. I was stalking Bird Breeder, and craigslist, and Facebook Marketplace, and anywhere else I could find. I was a bit obsessed. But Pepper has turned out to be such a sweetie that it's been worth every moment! She's so sweet with the kids too, and breaks many of the assumptions people make about African greys. I know I was meant to be a bird person and it's so wonderful to be bonded already.

Problem is, I am married to a bird person and the bird didn't pick him...so I think we'll keep our eyes peeled for a bird that would have him be his favorite. There's enough birds needing homes out there I figure we'll know when we are ready and we'll figure something out about the cages...oh and the cage needs its own post.

I tried my bird's Zupreem and NONE of them tasted like chocolate! :-(

I rest my case on the crazy part :p

My wife knew nothing about birds til she met our breeder (I owned birds YEARS before we married)

I have said numerous times how much I love Zon's, and it still kills me how much they love they wife. :(

Unless it's a Magna or a Tres Marie, not sure I'll get another one.

I love my GW's, but Zon's were my 1st "love"

Thankfully Pepper doesn't hate Kyle-she will step up for him-when she's in the right mood-and sit on his shoulder. But a lot of times when he goes to get her she moves to the other end of the playtop. He bribes her with tidbits and keeps trying.

I told him it's only fair because I'm the one scrubbing the birdie doo off the cage constantly! And making the food. And doing all the research....etc. He agrees. Since he works out of the house, it's better this way.

LOL

The Zon's don't really hate me, they tolerate me.........barely. I can have both of them on me at the same time actually, but when the wife is home things REALLY change

.

I'm doing the same thing right now even though it's another month before I can get a bird. I check all the sights multiple times a day, and not just Portland's sites but Seattle and everything in between lol

Beaker's Place seemed like an excellent place to get a hand-fed baby! She was several hundred dollars more expensive than other parts of the country, but she really takes excellent care of her babies. She's in Washington.

If you are looking for a grey there's a guy who has one Congo left here. I've talked with him on the phone and he sounds like a really great breeder. I bet he'd let you visit and you could get a real taste for it. His name is Tom and he's been breeding greys for years. He has his birds on Roudybush pellets when they are weaned but he feeds fruits, veggies, and grains too!

eeeeeeeeeeee!!

so you picked her up right? (chimes in with everyone else)

If I lived near you I'd take her in a heartbeat haha, the price is cheap for me, greys here are $5500! And that includes all her cage and toys too! She is a beautiful bird!

Yeah can't help with telling you no.......

As you can see from my sig....ummm I'm not good with no....lol

Get the bird!

I think the both of us went from one bird to four in just a couple of heartbeats , lolol. We should not be allowed to talk to the newbies about getting more birds. :p

But then who will lead them down the path to birdie Nirvana????;):D

I already have their website bookmarked :D Figured if I didn't find a grey that needs to be rehomed, I'd contact them

Sorry I cant help you, if I were closer I prolly would have beat ya to her.....

Wouldn't it be funny some of us were trying to get the same bird , lololol.
At least we would know who has him and be reassured that it got a great home too , and we would be able to watch it grow through pictures :) :) :)

She's still listed.
Although part of me thinks a flighted bird wouldn't be the best idea now-we have small kiddos and doors get left open ALL the time. I guess we could put screen flaps on all the doorways...

Yeah-I kinda still want to call her. But we do have limited room here...and we are brand new bird owners. I feel rather cocky assuming we'd be the best choice when we have less than two weeks grey experience.

well, do what you think is best for all concerned :)

DANG I was hoping we were gonna go back to talkin' bout how nuts you were :54::11::30:

I have four children under seven. I have unending layers of crazy in here. Do you know how many poopy diapers I have changed in the last seven years? You cannot stay sane with the amount of noise, and night wakings, and so on. It seemed for years all I did is feed and clean and guide behavior!

Getting an African grey was so...simple. She can eat by herself, she can put herself to bed and sleeps ALL night, she has these small cute poops that don't smell...she's so quiet! I'm still rather shocked about it. Oh, and I don't have to haul her around grocery shopping (have you ever grocery shopped with three preschoolers and a toddler?) I can simply leave her at home in her cage and she's fine. Falling in love with a new critter is also nice without having postpartum hormones. :) Parenthood makes a good prep for having a parrot around!

Oh man, you're just getting started!!! LOL

I know this won't help, but it gets worse before it gets better :54:
(I have a 22yo and a 10yo, both boys)

ummm that ain't gonna change either......children OR birds. :11:

I figure I'll get enough rest when I die.:p

and no, I ain't trying to "rain on your parade".

I feel her pain. My wife and I have 5 kids. 4 girls (16, 13, 9, 7) and 1 boy (14). The parrot was easy!

Honestly,
Most people that own 1 parrot will never just have 1. I got my GCC in march and looky here, i just couldnt resist on getting another bird.( my TAG). Dont think your nuts. If you think your nuts then everyone on this site is nuts haha. Go for it. How many times is an offer like this gonna knock on our door. Not many. Especially ones that need new homes. Go for it and get it. You, Pepper, and your husband wont regret it.

I know it gets worse! It's all good! The kids will get bigger but then there will be grandkids! I am planning on being a busy grandma after I am a busy mom. I love caring for things, and even if my life has been crazy I've had more cuteness and sweetness packed into these little years than I could even count.
