The patty is sooooo plumpy and bigger than the Illiger's. This surprises me but I have not seen a patty in many years. I hope you enjoy your Illiger's I really enjoyed mine. Diego was very much a part of my life. My nick name for him was Little Freak. He had a pretty extensive vocabulary so don't be surprised if your Illiger's talks a lot. Diego was loud but only when he felt in the right and even then it was more contact calls than right out screaming.
I would love to know more about your new Illiger's as the personality comes out. I knew no other person who has and Illiger's I actually don't know anyone who has a Noble Macaw or a Red Fronted Macaw either.
The patagonian is slightly bigger body wise...but the illigers is heavier! The illigers is already talking...someone at the bird store taught him to say OH MY GOD lol....he such a sweetheart he'd rather be on his back cuddeling with you then standing on your finger...only thing is she's hard to get out of his cage she doesn't bit or anything but just grabs on to bars when I attempt to take her out that will probably get better in time! My patagonian is probably unlikely to be friends with the illie he doens't like any of my birds only me and somewhat my partner!
Diego use to lay on my neck and coo while I watched TV. he would try to get me to fall asleep so he could creep down my body and bite my dog in the butt. I would feel him trying to be stealthy so I would open my eyes and give him a dirty look. He would run back up and shove himself on my neck. It took me a while to get use to him lying there. The feathers and his talons use to tickle my neck. I would try to shove him forward with my chin and he would just wiggle back on my neck.
When I first got him he really wanted nothing to do with me. He was pretty pissed off that I ripped him out of his home, made him go through airport security, then isolated him upstairs in my computer room. For three weeks I worked with him, I sang to him, talked to him, read to him and pushed him at his pace. I had to take him out to service his cage every day and he would step up but wanted to go to the play gym instead of wanting to be with me. I remember the day that he decided I wasn't bad was when he rolled over to his side and cuddled wrestled with me. He grabbed my hands with his talons and rubbed his face all over my hands. I knew he accepted me then because he did what the breeder called cuddle wrestling. Sounds like your Illie is already doing that. COOL!!
Diego was co-parented so he was somewhat a wild thing. Very spirited and very narcissistic but he knew he was a parrot. Other than the one person bonding thing he was a awesome bird who was my best friend. He was a nervous pooper so I had planed on getting him a flight suite so I could take him out in public more. I miss him every day.
