I'll just help myself mom.... Max and a pine nut container.... fixed link!

A laugh at myself.....

The best treat for Max are pine nuts in shell, but as we learned the hard way, they go rancid fairly quickly at room temps so I keep the supply on freezer and take up about half this container at a time for his night time treat before bed.

If you don't know me very well, I live with some health crap including MS. And you may know or read about brain fog or memory slips especially when tired, one reason the container is bright orange, hard to miss when you look around thinking now what am I forgetting. So tonight was a refill night and we were getting ready to head upstairs so I sat the container on the landing - so not to forget. Then my husband's work phone rings so I sit down on the sofa - yep forgetting I just put the pine nut container on the stairs SO I DIDN'T forget it... go ahead, giggle or snicker it's okay, I take life head on with a wicked sense of humor.... Things are mighty quiet and my husband nudges me and points to the steps. I grab the phone to see if he'd do it again..... yeah silly me for doubting the brain power and problem solving abilities of a pine nut loving macaw...

Least he keeps me moving!!

Bahaha! I love how carefully he pus the lid down! Go Max, you worked hard for those nuts:)
I wish I could find pine nuts in the shell, I have never seen them here. Do you order them from somewhere?

Mybirdstore.com and mysafebirdstore.com usually have them.... I wait for a storewide sale and buy a couple pounds, then vac seal and freeze the buggers!

Good idea! I would love to be able to order from MSBS but their shipping to here costs more than the order:( I'll check out the other one.

Haha he is awsome. I love how they commit crime so gracefully. Max looks really beautiful, the green colour on him is stunning x

I love how he so politely puts the lid down:p Kiwi would've flung that like a frisbee across the room! What a funny and naughty boy Max is:D

He is so deliberate! He knows exactly what he is doing and has the end game clearly in his mind. This doesn't look like trial and error at all. He also looks as if he knows that he will get substantially more nuts if he tips it over. Amazing!

Mannnnn, he IS smart... and deliberate... and dainty, even.

My darling Rb has yet to figure out how to get those lids off. His strategy is to get angry and knock the offending container to the floor while screaming in frustration. *sigh*

Max *IS* a beauty.

Hey, Jen, I really like your idea of bright colors to attract your focus... I have some similar issues, and I am stealing that idea right away. Thanks!

I can relate, Jen. My kids find it hilarious when I run determinedly up the stairs... only to reach the top and ask what it was I was here to do. Especially pressing since I then find myself wondering if it was urgent since I had been running. Sigh...

I love how completely cool Max is about getting that container open. There's just nothing frantic or crazed about his movements at all. Just laid back and matter of fact even when the container is pulled away and closed again. I love it!

Nuts.com has them in the shell.

I think they have them for $11 / lb in shell. Not sure if that is a good price.
We've ordered many things from there (including organic).
Its one of Arika's favorite websites :)

$11 a pound is a decent price, often they are on the bird sites for $12-14 a pound (reason I wait for the 25 or 30% off sitewide sales). :) But thank you for sharing, I will check that out too, will need to order more soon with having Titan in the house now too, he gets them sometimes, tho he's not as pine nut crazed as Max :)

The best part is that he opened it the first time so quietly that 3 of us sitting just feet from him did not hear a thing, my husband just happened to look up while he was talking on the phone to see Max just quietly munching away.

He is a smart, bratty turd... big momma's boy that knows when he's bad, all he has to do is tilt his head and give me the 'I love you momma' and he gets away with murder.

DING DING DING.. I'm kicking myself for not going with the 5lb bag or larger.

Rudy Loves Them... He groans with mmmm and yummy yummy......

Of course he has done the same thing when I give him aa occaisional rock to chew on..

Anyways... its nice to change things up.. Pistachios, walnuts and cashews have been a mainstay, for my pocket when we head out.. AND those pine nuts are impossible for me to eat! :)
