I also have a friend who worked with birds in a Petco for a while and she is very experienced with parrots, cares very much and did her best to make a difference.
I know the pet business can really be an evil thing, but within that evil empire exists some caring people along the way, certainly.
In my local stores, the Petco has the good bird dept relative to the Petsmart. Petsmart almost makes me cry every time i see the birds whereas the Petco birds are happy and in large, clean cages.
