I'm excited, but also shocked...

The more I've learned about zons, the more I've been saying I'm not sure I want another one, and ESPECIALLY one of the "hot three"

So who chose me? A 6 year old chubby male yellow nape named Bean!

I went to check out the hahns macaw they have, but he didn't seem to care if I was there or not, so I started looking around and of course Bean just had to say "hello" "what" so I had to stop and talk to him! How could I not?

He came from the back of his cage to the front and was trying to step up through the bars! I was scratching his head and Brian came in and saw what was happening so he opened the door and let him come out! Bean climbed up Brian's arm and then onto me and said "what". He stayed on my arm while I walked around the store and picked out a few things for Zilla and talked to some of the other birds and really threw a fit when I had to put him back so I could leave.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but I think my Mom was going to go back and put a deposit down on him in the hopes they would keep him until Zilla gets the all clear in late January.

Awesome! It's always amazing when we find a bird that chooses us!:) I've got 2 yellow naped amazons and they are great birds....

It is amazing when a bird you've never met before decides it wants you! :)

How exciting! I hope it's meant to be :)

ps.... I think you ARE a zon person ;)

My hopes are soaring, even though I'm trying not to let them! :54:

I just might be more of a zon person than I thought I was

Amanda, I'll help you hope. I'm excited for you. If it's meant to be, your new friend will still be there when Ms. Zilla gets the all clear.

Aww that is so awesome. I hope Bean is the right fit and I am sure you are a "zon" person. Just look at the care and love you have given Zilla. :)

Oh, Amanda, I'll be having fingers and toes crossed for you that Bean will get to come live with you in January!! :D

You are most definitely a zon person. Who could ever resist the charm of a YN? :smile015: Depending how far this place is from you, you could visit with Bean often until you can bring him home.

How long has Brian had him, and are there any female Amazons nearby? I'm only asking because the males 'can' get a bit obnoxious around breeding season (even if there aren't females around). :54:

Awww...that will be great if you can get Bean! I hope it all works out! Good luck and keep us posted.

Zilla and Bean... O man, what a duo that would be:D Is Bean at the Bird Hut?

Thanks Wendy! :D I'm also crossing fingers and toes!

I think you just might be right about me being a zon person, even if I didn't know it until a short time ago...LOL

Brian has had him for awhile, not sure how long, but I have seen him there many times I just didn't know I was a zon person!

There are a couple other zons there but I don't know if they are male or female??? I was wondering how getting a male would work with Zilla being female. I don't want babies! They would have separate cages, but I am hoping they will get along and be able to at least be friends and maybe even be out together at times.

Bean is at the bird hut, he is the "chubby" yellow nape in the "zon" room!

I think I will have my hands full with 2 zons! :D

Yup, it's possible that Zilla and Bean will get along, but you'll just have to wait and find out. I've found with Amazons they either like each other or they don't, and if they don't - their mind is 'usually' made up for whatever reason that may be.

My Hunter and Sam are housed separately, but they get to hang out with each other on the Java trees and get along GREAT. :D (Hunter is the 15 year old hen, and Sam is my 2.5 year old male)

Even if they aren't "best friends", most zons get along, especially when it's a male and female. They live in large flocks, it's in their nature to be with others of their own kind. My moms zons are so bonded, you could never separate them. Lucy and Barney get in little nipping "disagreements" from time to time, but they never hurt each other and 99% of the time, spend all day together preening, regurgitating and cuddling each other (they sleep in separate cages though). When Kiwi was 'introduced' they seemed to welcome him to sit on top of their cages with them. They know their own kind. Zons and other species though may have a little different reaction:54:

When my mom let Kiwi be 'uncaged' near her birds the first time (we used to leave him with her when we went out of town). They hadn't seen a 'new' parrot in 35/40 years, Kiwi may have never seen another of his own kind and what happens? They just went to their respective 'corners', sat there and stared at each other:20: And FYI, Barney has presumed genetic issues, he's overall healthy and has been to many, many vets about the baldness over the years with no 'cause' ever being found. He has been like that for about 30 years.

I was worried that Tater and Kiwi would never be able to be out together, and they do fine. They occasionally get into shouting matches or sort of posture at each other, but they never actually hurt each other. I imagine during puberty/breeding season that might be different and we might not be able to allow them out, but right now they do fine!

They seem to like that huge bowl of yumminess!

I'm trying to make the pic big enough to tell what all is in it so I can make some for Zilla! Spoiled little featherball that she is!
