I just got home from work, and I found her on the floor next to the refrigerator. Her breathing is shallow, and she is very sleepy. I brought some food and water to her, and she ate and drank, but now is just sleeping. I'm keeping her warm, but not sure what else to do?

Take her to the vet if you really think it is serious, I'm sorry I can't be of no more help than that but that's what I would do if I was you and that worried :(

Birds can get into all kinds of mischief that's why they need to be supervised while out and about, should never been allow to roam throughout the house alone. The only time they should be allow to do so if they're in a flight cage/aviary. You need to take her to the vet cause it can be anything.

She's perking up, so I put her in a separate cage, but I have no idea what happened, as it's midnight and I just got home an hour ago. She was very thirsty.

No, nothing around me. I also think that maybe she got poisoned. She's been chewing on the bungee cords we use on the cabinets to keep her out, maybe the rubber is making her sick?

We can only speculate as there's too many things in the household they can get ahold of. Only the vet can give you more insight to what's making your bird sick.

If its poison, wouldn't letting her have plenty of water allowing her body to be flushed out naturally help till the morning?

Did you notice illness sighns? Like watery eyes and a red swollen beak? Sneezing or coughing? Etc.. Browse on google for bird illness sighns. And if you find an illness sighn on your bird take it to a vet, make sure they checked on your parakeet well. That's all I know about parakeets since my old one escaped, I really miss :,(

Thanks everyone. She is looking much better today(my bf says I over-react too much), and flying a bit. She's bright eyed and singing a bit, but will get her to the vet tomorrow. She looked really bad last night, and her eyes were closing and kind of almost rolling back in her head, and she let me hold and pet her, and she NEVER does that(she's a biter, lol!), so I freaked. Am watching her now, eating and playing with the others.

I'm glad your birdie is doing better now. Even if she looks better or normal now, it's good that you take her to the vet to be on the safe side.

I agree completely with MikeTN. I would never let a bird roam free in the house if I wasn't home and watching it. It doesn't matter how tame it is, there are too many ways for a bird to get into trouble and hurt itself. If I have my parakeet out of his cage, I never leave him alone except maybe I'll let him perch on his play gym while I leave the room for a few minutes to go to the bathroom, get a drink, etc. In fact, I would never leave ANY small animal alone to roam around the house. I would only trust a dog or cat to do that. But with small animals, they're too curious and there's too many ways for them to get hurt if they aren't supervised.

Glad she is getting better :) agree with everyone. It isn't wise to let a pet roam around the house when nobody is as wise as if your letting a toddler roam around. I appreciate even though she Is getting better you still are getting her to the vet.

They weren't alone, my boyfriend was here, he just figured she was in a cabinet, as she really likes them. That's where my 2 babies were born in November, lol. She is fine, thankfully! I think she likes the cabinets to get away from the others. They all follow her around. She's so popular, lol!
