do any of your macaws honk like a goose
I just brought Keiko home last night and when I hold her and pet her she makes a honking noise that sound just like a goose only louder...lol...
wasn't sure if this was normal

Well, I have a little penguin here:) When I bought it I was told it was an African Grey, but she talks and walk just like penguin:)

My red belly does a fantastic microwave impression. I have to say Im not jealous of your goose. I wont be upset if he never learns that one. A penguin though... Ive always wanted a penguin.

LOL! No honking here, but when he walk or runs he's pigeontoed!:11:

when Keiko hears the microwave door shut she kinda screams a little...lol

When I first got Josie, she used to bark like a dog when she was excited. The previous owner had 3 dogs, so i guess that's why she barked. Now, she meows like the cats...only much louder. It really messes with the cats and so, Josie will laugh at them.

I get the goose honk sometimes too. She's now saying "fine! Fine!" Cracks me up.

That is funny. I can just picture the Macaw honking and pooping alot of poop. Anyone, that has owned geese knows not only can they be loud and mean but they are pooping machines. Did your bird hear alot of geese from where you got her from?

Yes! When I first got mine home 3 mos ago he honked, in the medium tone of geese, routinely too. (If you own geese you will know their sounds: ranging from alert honks to tender vocalizations. i love my geese! I would make them house geese if they weren't so messy.)

Now my macaw's honks are not so much, but there is an occasional little honk or grunt when he's nappy and resting. He actually did a few little honks now while I am typing this....... But the funny thing is that I do have geese and when he first came they were really spooky to him. (He could hear and see them through the patio door). Now my geese are back out on my pasture, so he no longer sees them. (I sometimes get my geese up in the house yard if the predators are particularly active. I happened to bring the macaw home when the geese were in my yard.) he would get very spooked when the geese would run across the yard and vocalize and try to fly: that really got my new bird wigged out! He didn't care for when the geese would tap on the windows and doers either.

I wasn't sure if the macaw was copying their noise at first or if it was his own.... I know that he did not ever have goose interaction previously so I sense that there is a calming or soothing noise that macaws must do on their own that is similar to a soft goose honk?

It's like a croak/honk. Now my macaw is about asleep and the frequency of his honks is less.

I like his noises. Even if he is speaking in a foreign tongue. Ha ha .

Darcy makes a noise that kind of reminds me of "Erp erp erp!"

Yep, Penguin, definitely penguin:) Look at her, every time I open up my refrigerator she runs like crazy and climbs inside. She looks very comfortable there and it seems to me that she would prefer to stay there for the rest of the day.

Oh man, Mango too. I love watching him run he is soooo uncoordinated.

It's hilarious!:32: It's uncanny that he can run so fast on the tile floor, and those feet, the way that move! I don't know how he keeps from tripping, but he doesn't.:09:
