1 peach faced lovebird Coco
hello everyone , this is my first post so i need some help plz !:)
sooo 3 1/2 days ago i bought a lovebird from my local pet store , i named him/her ( i dont know yet ) Coco :D !!! its a peachfaced one. they said it is almost 1 year old but not hand raised . i have bought him many toys and he seems to love them . BUT i have many questions since i have never had a parrot before only canaries . Since now i am talking quitly to him all the time , in the morning i put him in the balcony to see the sky and the sun, he loves it . now the problems .... . when i bring him inside the room from the balcony i mean he tends to take many naps , he then eats , plays a little and the sleep again is it ok ? when i put my hand to change his water , seeds, change the order of toys etc. he just freaks out starts screaming , and flying all around , what should i do ? ( i now its only 3 1/2 days ) . can you plz reply to my questions , and also how to make him comfortable around me and my hands , stop from over squaking and tame him , ( he was alone at the pet store ) if needed i can send you pictures of him just ask , thanks in advance !!!!:green1:

Time and patience. It can take a while to bring them around. Do a forum search to find some more threads on this topic.

Just to begin with I would say to find a distance between you and your Lovebird at which your Love bird is comfortable. No sudden movements or loud noises just nice soft words and keep hand movement to a minium spesk softly to your bird by name for a short period of a minute or so then walk away and do whatever you are doing and maybe 10 or 15 mins later come back to that spot for a moment or two speaking softly again addressing the bird by name. Keep repeating this until the bird is comfortable with your presence then you can spend a little longer chatting to him from the same spot. After that you can move closer and closer to his cage as he grows to accept your presence and loses his fear of you. Keep your hand movement during these times to a minium as birds are often very scared of hands to begin with. I hope someone else comes on to help as I have no experience of Love birds . Congrats on your new baby :)

Thanks for the replies. Just one more question . How can i make Coco not to be afraid of my hands inside cage ?

He is going to be afraid right now. He's had a LOT of huge changes. He's in an unfamiliar place, likely with an unfamiliar cage, and this giant human is putting their hands in HIS space.

Like the above, no sudden movements. Many cages have a way to fill the food and water from the outside. If yours doesn't, you can always open the door to let him come out so you can change his food, water, and paper. This will reduce his fear since he won't feel trapped in there with your hands. You want to associate your hands only with positive things, so use treats to lure him out of his cage. Millet is a good option with Coco. Let him take a bite every time he moves towards the door.

Unfotunately his cage has access only from the inside . Since he scared how am i supposed to let get out . Howam i going to bring him back in . I try to put my hand in with some brocoli on the back of my hand and then freeze until he stops screaming and flying . Am i doing the right thing ? Also his wings Arent clipped .

Be patient. You haven't her/him for four days. I got my Buddy (26 yo) and while he is happy and resonds to some commands. You will need to put in the interaction, training time with your tiel on a daily basis. Stay focused!
