That's right, guys! After a long, drawn out weekend which was full of negotiation, I believe I have agreed on something with my parents. My dad expressed that his main concern with getting a parrot now would be that I have my GCSEs in May, and he believes that a bird would mean I have less study time, which I understood. So, as a solution... My parents have agreed that, if my exam results come back good in August, I can have anything I would like, even a bird- but if I get a bird, that's the only present due to the prices involved. So, this has motivated me to work harder so that I can get the results I need. I'm really, really excited. We're looking for reputable breeders and rescues nearby.



(I wrote them an essay on everything they needed to know about Greys. Even the parts that might turn them off a bit, such as cost and etc. But, they appreciated my honesty.)

African Greys are amazingly smart birds and take more than average amount of care.
Amazons are a great birds also. The may not demonstrate there intelligence but they tend to have less problems down the road.

Just make sure your parents are willing to change how they cook and clean/ the products used within the home! That is huge.

Congratulations on getting so far with this and if I were you, I would start scouting out a CAV and mention that to them as well.
The costs of the bird itself are just the beginning (but you probably already know that).

Oh, I have been! I think I'll need my dad's help on it when we're closer to getting the bird, though! I referenced your list of chemicals and household products we couldn't use, and also the alternatives to those products and chemicals. Thank you for making that list, I couldn't find one with alternatives online.

My CAG essay took priority over my literature report last week... Too many pages! I managed to complete both, and my tutor gave me a grade 8/9, 9 being the highest possible grade over here. I'm backing off on the bird essays now, my parents have told me to stop talking about birds for now.

The yellow/clear f10 sc is my favorite thing. It technically doesn't have to be rinsed (just allowed to dry on a surface). It is however, only a disinfectant only, meaning that it doesn't cut surface grime like some cleaners and it isn't going to work as well on things that are porous.
It is very safe for birds (although it must be diluted---I use it in the same room with mine all of the time.

It seems expensive for a small bottle but you can literally make something like 13 gallons with the 200 ml bottle of concentrate (or 17 (17 oz) spray-bottles full and it is good for up to 6 months after mixing with water--- the un-mixed concentrate has a longer shelf-life of 4 years.
The company has a specific list of dilution ratios online somewhere...but the bottle gives the reader's digest version.
I do a 1:250 ppm solution, which is 2ml F10 to every 17oz of water.
You can go higher than this, but as I recall, the next step up is for sanitizing surgical tools and killing super resilient viruses like parvo (1:125 ppm). There are lower dilution ratios as well.

Don't let the price intimidate you---it is cheaper than standard cleaners for the amount you get (even though the bottle looks tiny). It is very safe for humans too--- I use it around the house for cleaning (especially for things that I want to properly disinfect).

F10 does make a green detergent-based disinfectant that must be diluted as well, but it will cut through grease. The issue for me is that it is a soap and must be rinsed off. That is why I never use that variety.


Other good cleaners to have:
Unscented Magic Erasers
Baking Soda
White vinegar
Dawn dish soap
grapefruit-seed extract.
Lots of people like Poop-Off, but it doesn't kill germs.

Just don't ever mix cleaners together without knowing what you are doing.

In terms of the GSE, he wouldn't have to ingest it---it is a potential surface cleaner.
I don't personally use it, but a lot of people do.

It also has to be diluted--- you don't use it straight.


Here is the F10 SC I was talking about too---the picture below shows the kind that doesn't have to be rinsed off (but does have to be diluted)
I mix mine in a chemically resistant plastic spray bottle that already has the ounces marked, then I just use a 1ml syringe to add 2ml of the solution and shake it up with 170z of H20:

To give you an idea of how long F10 lasts when diluting it. The last time I ordered was in Jan 2018 & it was the smaller bottle of 100ml. I use it to clean 70ish snakes cages, 2 lizards cages, 6 bird cages, 7 rat cages, & I’ve used it for some random things around the house. I clean everything once to every other week with it. I’ll probably have to order again this month or next month.
