Good day! I am soo happy today! My wife advised me to chose wisely since this will be my last bird. So my choices were Blue Crown Conure, Yellow Nape or a Pamana. After careful research I went with my gut feeling. The baby will not be available til spring but that will not be a problem. This way I can save up and buy a nice big java tree playgym and climbing nets. I have read Panamas love to climb. I feel that my last bird will be my best bird. I will be given the first pick of the litter. My breeder told that there is no aggression between the male species like the hot 3. So it safe to chose a boy or girl. If it is boy I will name him Casper and the girl name I am undecided. Peace to all!

The Panama costs $1200 same as the Yellow Nape is this fair price?

1200 is a fair price for a true Pan (about what i get) YC are about half that here YN are about 800. IMO Pans are the best pet, maybe not as good a talker as YN ,However the best talking amazon i've ever seen was a hen Pan i had as a kid. Can't go wrong with a Panama. If i had first choice, listen to what the breeder says but go with the bird that picks you. (breeder might want the best for himself,LOL) PS can you tell the difference between Pan and YC ? Many pans being sold are really YCs or hybrids. Pans aren't that common anymore, and becoming rarer. Ask your breeder what he'd take for his pair.

Thankyou Henpecked, I buy my birds from a reknown breeder..... DJ Feathers. You can actually visit their website and go under the Amazon section. There you will find a picture of a baby Panama. You can also go to YouTube and type DJ Feathers/ Panama Amazon and see a video of the breeder/Panama. Peace be to you.

Wenz 2712, did you ever find out if Codi is a boy or girl?

I agree with Henpecked. That's a good price for a TRUE Panama Amazon. Congrats on your new baby! You must be SO excited. :D

Henpecked thanks, I hate going to my breeder because of the long commute. It is 45 minutes from my home but in rush hour it can take 1 hour 45 minutes. I live in the MD/DC/VA area where we have the#1 traffic grid lock in the nation. I was torn between getting the Nape or Pan but went with Pan because of it's sweet nature. Peace be to you.

Well before going to bed last night I suddenly switched back to Yellow Nape. I emailed my breeder about the switch. I was getting a wrong idea about the Panama being a talker on the level of the hot 3 ......YN, DYH and BF. I discovered to my surprise that the hot 3 are the only ones capable of talking in human like way. So that helped me in deciding the right fit for me. I did request a female vs male because of the hormonal impact. Now I just have start thinking of girl names. Peace to all.

Yes... Codie is a Boy :) I have gone for 14 Months thinking he was a Girl :11: Ha ha... I have just taught him to say " Good Boy" instead of " Good Girl ".... but, he still says Good Girl as well LOL

Wait, Codie DOES say "GOOD BOY" already? That was SUPER fast! Awesome!!!

Yes.. He started to say it last Night Wendy :) It made me so happy :) It just goes to show, that he does listen intently when I am teaching him things:)

I just wish he would not go dumb as soon as he sees the Video Camera!! I keep trying to record him :(

I'm literally at awe at how quickly Codie picked this up. :52: I hear you about "going dumb" as soon as he spots the video recorder. I've got one of those myself, and it can be a bit frustrating. :(

IMO personality is more important than species. I 'd go meet all the babies i could and keep my options open.

Well said Henpecked. I agree with your points. Its just that I always wanted a talking bird. The parrot flock I currently have only my Quaker says hi and thats it. My Sennie talks but not all the time. He will talk if I am in the other room or when he goes for his car rides around town, lol. I have never owned a talking bird on a level with a African Grey or a Yellow Nape Amazon. I feel I made the best choice knowing my deep desire for a talking bird. I chose the Yellow Nape because from my research they are the best talking and smartest Amazon out there. So why settle for less? The qualities that I would of gotten from the Panama I still get that from my other birds as far as being nice and smart. Thanks a million for the feedback, Peace be to you.

Listen to your breeder, they can tell which ones will be talkers, even before they wean.

My Panama never STOPS talking. I call him an active listener. I talk or sing & he says, "Yeah . . . uh huh. Yes! Uh huh . . . Uh huh . . . Watcha doing?" and lots of other words. I find myself talking to HIM rather than the Grey because the Pan seems so darned fascinated by what I am saying.

He makes me think I'm interesting!

lol can i have your panama? this thread has me wanting another amazon!! good luck with either bird you get!
