Cockatiels - Oz & Kaila
I was typing away on the computer, having put Oz back in the cage because I,d planned to go to bed after, when I heard a *clang* clang* so I look behind me at the cage, and it was Oz, raising and dropping one of the little sliding doors (they're for easy removal of food trays, at the bottom of the cage but I don't use them because 1. I don't put his food at the bottom and 2. he's way too cute when he jumps on my hand when I go to change his food in the morning)

How long would you say it'll take him to pull a Houdini on me after this point? Bets are open xD

Cockatiels will learn to open those in no time....You can get a dog leash hook and keep the doors closed with it.

You can also use SS quick links...1/8" or 3/16' should be fine for 'tiel cages.....

My aunt's cockatiel learned to escape from those very quickly. She had to give him the run of the house after he'd figured it out. You can just hook them shut. She used binder rings for them, like the little notecard rings that work like a binder ring. Those helped because even though her cockatiel figured out how to use them (he kept trying to open them the way she did) he wasn't strong enough to pull them open.
