I got a conure yesterday!! Not a sun conure like I'd been planning to get, but a little green cheek :D. He's so cute! I decided on a GCC instead because they're quieter and better for apartments, and I don't want to limit my college choices to in-state just because I'll have to live at home with my bird. I got home at around 12:30 am, and that's why I couldn't tell you guys earlier .

But ANYWAY..

I'm sure you are all more interested in photoooos :D!

Here's Cricket!

Just picked him up at around 9 pm (hence the terrible lighting..)

He came with soooo many toys (all handmade!), a tent, an Aviator Harness :)D), and lots of food and treats! Don't know if you can see him

Didn't take any more pictures for the rest of the night, but here are more from this morning :). A lot of them are similar :p.

I have lots more photos of him but I'm only gonna post these few because if I posted them all I would have about 6 or 7 posts LOL! Not even joking! I have about 40 pictures, plus the many smileys I tend to use... So here are some pictures of his cage and toys, and the things I bought for him today!

It's hard to see with the mess on my desk, so here are some hopefully-better pictures :p

And here are pictures from my shopping spree! :D

I didn't get much because I only needed a few things. He came with 9 toys not including his tent, and I also have two rope toys that I made for him. The other two toys I made are smaller, and they're not supposed to be hung.

Here's what I got!

Two natural wooden perches. I'm taking out a couple dowels. They had bigger perches, but they were 36" and my cage is only 31" at the longest :(. I would have cut them down, but they had washers and wingnuts at both ends.

A rope perch!

A little rope chain toy, just to add to everything he already has :p.
IMG_2217.jpg

A big water bottle because I needed something covered so he wouldn't poop in it, and he's too big to fit his beak in a small bird fountain .

More cuttlebones!

And plus a pair of earrings I found at the drugstore lol :D. Just HAD to get them :p! They're a really bright neon green but I'm too lazy to fix the lighting in the photos. There's too many and my computer is slow enough as it is!

Thank you!! I'm glad he did too, because I held off on buying supplies since I was planning on finding an ad, emailing the breeder, then if I decided to get that bird I would know how much money I could spend on other things. I didn't have as many materials to make toys, just a lot of rope and some wood.. the stuff he came with was SO much more than I could hope for!!

Thank you!! He came with the name, and I kept it because I think it's adorable too :D. Last night I went to clip his wings because he was a little flighty, and when I tried to get him from the top of his cage, he literally HOPPED to the other end lol! It was the cutest thing, definitely reminded me of a cricket :D. Oh and he gets the whole cage to himself tehehe!! Most of his fun toys are going to be at the top though so he can be higher up. I think I'll move his three dowels to the bottom so he can walk down and do whatever he wants on them, but on the top half I'm gonna have the wooden perches and the rope perch.

Oh yay!!! I am so glad! I was just gonna send you an email seeing how he was settling in!
Looks like he is doing great!
I told you he was a sweetie, I am happy is being a good boy!

Glad you like the name! Has he said his name for you yet?

I think he will get over the flightiness and fear of hands with time. He does like shoulder though:)
Like I said when I brought him home he immediately bonded with my other Green cheek so I did not really work with him very much as he preferred Angel to me.

What a real sweet heart. You are sooooo lucky and I think this is going to be one spoiled bird. I think she already has you wrapped around her toe. CONGRATS!

I think he has said his name.. but I'm not sure :p. How clearly does he say it? When we went to get gas, my dad wanted some coffee so I took Cricket out of his cage. I said his name a few times and he responded with "grunt-grunt" lol! But he does say "goodnight" VERY clearly. I couldn't believe what I heard lol! It didn't sound very gravely at all, at least not as gravely as most GCCs :D. He's sat on my finger a couple times today, and he lets me preen him with my nose lol!

Thank you!! And yes he does lmao :D. I spent the whole morning shopping and taking pictures and arranging his cage lol! He's really liking the new "perch" I made him, which I was just about to show you guys :p.

I had the door open for him and he tried sitting on the edge of it, but the bar was way too skinny (and the ends of the vertical bars that were welded on must not have been very comfortable either) and he kept wobbling! So he climbed back to the top of his cage to eat more of his new favorite food (LOL) and I wrapped the top edge in rope :p. I made it so the door could still close, and he likes it much better!

Looks like you created a bird castle for her already. How easy it is to love them. Be happy!!

It is!! He's such a sweetie, even though he isn't the tamest (yet :p)! It's so fun spoiling him lmao :D

He is ADORABLE! Is he a DNA sexed male?? I also really love the name!!! Nice set up you have too!!!

Yep!! She had him DNA sexed but she couldn't find his certificate to give me, but that's okay. I trust that he's a boy, not that it really matters to me since I don't plan on breeding anyway! :p

He's been saying his name (I think) for the last while, and then I heard him say "Lookatchu!" And I think he's saying "Wow!" but I'm not sure lmao :D.

EDIT: He just said "Cricket!" and I said "Cricket!" and he said "Hmm? Cricket! Wow!"

WOW! You understand him way better than I did! I knew he was talking but all I could hear was Cricket. He is very smart!

Thank you! I got a recording of him last night saying some jibberish.. I ouldn't figure it out and neither could my mom lmao :p. He was definitely saying something very long though. At one point it sounded like "When can I talk to you?" LOL! :D

oh what a pretty bird ... congrats :D

Thank you!! :D

Hehe! Super cute :)

I made the same choice too, I was after a Sun but they were quite hard to find at the time (and still seem to be) in Melbourne so I went for a GCC. I think they are great though!

Yeah, me too!! :D Suns are beautiful, but I sure don't regret not having that "razor-wire" screaming!.
