Hey, FINALLY!!!!
I came up with this and want to share.
I used my cat's empty cat food cans and a ceramic ramekins.

I've made sure there are no sharp edges and glue from the paper on the can, then I drill a hole in the bottom and used a screw with a bigger head (a washer can be used as well). That's it!!!!! The 3 inch diameter ramekins (I think even Walmart sells them) fit just perfect. Also they are heavy enough for the Amazon size birds not to be able to lift it. They are easy to remove for cleaning.
Oh yes, always pre-drill holes in the wood, otherwise it splits.

wow! That's great! What material is the cat food can made of? are you sure it's bird safe encase it is chewed?

I like how it's just a holder that you can put any bowl in :D

Lucky for me, my birds are not crazy about chewing anything but wood and cardboard.
I was thinking that if cat food was there, it should be safe. But, I'll look into it tomorrow.
The cat food can could be replaced with the same diameter plastic dish or any other same size dish that could be drilled and screwed to the stand. What I like is that the ceramic one is too heavy for my birds to mess with. Everything else I've used, they just toss out of the holder...and the food goes all over the floor.....

That is a clever idea! I might just give it a try, I just happened to have picked up one of those ramekins at the store today. A quick google search suggests those smaller cat food cans are primarily aluminum, but may include some other unnamed substance, hmm.

I saw a video on creating a stand where he used a 4 inch PVC cap, drilled a hole and screwed it down, then put a chrome dish in it. I'm guessing that a larger bird could pick it up and toss it if they really wanted to.

Great idea. I did something similar almost 20 years ago. I had a lot of plastic softdrink cups so I cut some down to an appropriate height and then screwed them to the perch. Then I just used another cut down cup as the actual food/water dish. It was not as good or practical as your design. I abandoned the setup quickly because some birds wanted to perch on the not really, but kind of sharp plastic and I decided it was better to be safe than sorry.
