I feel sorry for 'Nut and hope to get him an aviary like this one day...

'Nut is EXTREMELY hyperactive. I have never in my life seen such a hyperactive bird and didn't even think a bird this insanely hyper even exists! LOL. The poor thing is very bored and all he ever wants to do is play and fly around (he has tons of toys... that doesn't help though)... but there are too many places that are "off limits" in the house. I literally CANNOT get ANY work done unless I put him in the cage! I feel bad for him. I feel like 'Nut belongs outside in an aviary were he can fly and play for at least few hours during the day and then would come back inside also of course...

I hope to be able to get him an aviary in the future so he can play and fly around in the aviary. I think he would LOVE it and would have a blast!

I'd love to get him something like these...

I might move to Arizona where it gets over 100 degrees outside.... if I set up an aviary so it also has shaded areas would it be OK for him to be outside for a couple hrs in the aviary?

100 degrees! I'm not sure, maybe for an hour or 2. My tiel starts panting and holding his wings out at 90 degrees. Any kind of parrot is tropical. They live in hot places, budgies, cockatiels, in Australia. Lovebirds in Africa, macaws in Brazil. Just to name a few! So he could probably handle 100 degrees.

I'm not sure, wait to see what others think.

I like that second one, except it needs a floor. Who wouldn't want an aviary for their parrot(s) ? I wonder sometimes if there are apartment dwellers who screen in their balconies to make small aviaries?

I would just let him outside in the early morning or late evening in that case :)

I've been thinking about how to construct and hang lol my flight cages in our living area in the future for just this reason; especially when babies are fledging!

Or I could just move to California instead in that case.... perfect weather there for 'Nut :) ... I miss CA so much. I miss everything asides from the insanely high taxes!!

If anyone here has an aviary and has pictures I would love to see it! Rascal is OK (because he's a true lap bird and super LAZY and laid back... his favorite thing to do is chill out on my thigh as I work on the computer and sleep all day) but I feel bad for 'Nut. He really does belong in an aviary for at least few hours every day... he is totally wacko stuck inside a house!

Even if I exercise the crap out of him... he keeps going and going nonstop full speed all over the entire house not allowing me to work and gets himself into trouble all the time. He needs access to an aviary where he can play and do ANYTHING he wants. I wish I had an aviary for him to play :(

Imagine if there were indoor aviaries available to the public for similar purpose as a dog park? Bring your bird, uncage, and have fun! Nice aviaries in the OP!

Of course we would have the concerns of potential fighting and disease transmission, but in the ideal world....!

That's an interesting thought :) ... I would also be very paranoid some bozo would accidentally let my tiel fly out of the aviary or someone else's parrot might decapitate my tiel hehe ;)

Maybe I could get a condo with screened in patio and turn that into an aviary... but I wonder if tiels can chew through screen? I would have to somehow cover up the screen in a way that HOA won't complain... not sure how I would do that though....

I know the feeling... My budgies never ever ever stop moving.
So much fun to watch though; and as the big cage is right next to me while I work and do homework...

I don't want an aviary though; I want a house with a sunroom that I can convert into an 'aviary' or bird room so that my birdies are still safe but have the illusion of being out doors.

But then again I'm planning on moving back to Virginia so ... outdoor aviaries aren't nessisarily a good idea there.

That's exactly what I would love... either a screened in porch where I could setup an aviary within the screen porch or a patio or indoor "aviary" etc. I really don't think 'Nut is suited to be stuck inside all day long. I keep imaging what a blast he would have had if he were a wild tiel out in Australia rather than a domesticated copped up bird who is bored to death.

It would be so much fun to be able to get him an aviary... I would set it up like a jungle from him. It would be fun to watch him go haywire in his new playground :D

I'd like one about this size but with a floor. Hopefully I will get it for him one day...

Anyone have any creative ideas on how I could turn a screened in patio in a condo into an aviary without HOA bothering me?? I need to figure out how I would prevent my tiels from chewing a hole into the screen and escaping.... my patio would be about this size... it's not the size aviary I would like to have though wish I could get a bigger one :(

Al... When I was first married,my THEN wife were looking at apartments and looked at one on the second floor of a three family home. It had a screened in porch, with wood floor. The previous renter used it for an aviary, and when he/she/they left, never cleaned up the TON of birdie poo from the floor .
Debbie and I were considering renting it ( we had just brought Smokey home) and the land lord said.."no pets..ESPECIALLY BIRDS!!!"

We told him "ummmm thanks...but its not for us :)"

Until the day comes when I can get 'Nut (and Rascal, not that he cares LOL) a decent aviary I would love to get something like this:

https://www.wayfair.com/AandE-Cage-Co.-Small-Walk-Bird-Aviary-WI6262-AEC1071.html?PiID[]=3278084&source=hotdeals

It says bar spacing is one inch.... that is too big for a tiel :(

Do you think I would get complaints from HOA if I live in a condo and have a massive bird aviary on my patio? 'Nut is VERY well behaved outside... doesn't scream at all just sings. Rascal is silent as a mouse.... but HOA and neighbors make me nervous...
