Parrots
Female Violet IRN, Nyla / Female TAG, Izumi
It took a while, but I have found and made a deposit for my future TAG.
Even before I got my Nyla I've always wanted a TAG. He is 3 weeks old, I just found out his gender this morning, and he will be with me in about 2 months :D
However, I need advice!!

I know I'll have the time for my new baby, seeing as I currently have 2 very needy animals (side eyes Nyla and my cat), and just rehomed another very high maintenance animal I had for about 3 months (had to rehome due to allergies but is living with a friend so I still see/provide for her as often as I can)

I've never had, or even been in prolonged contact, with anything larger than an IRN. Nyla has a nicely sized cage right now, and back when I thought I was gonna get another IRN instead, I had purchased this one as well:
Prevue Hendryx? Select Series: Bird cages for medium size birds at Drs. Foster & Smith

I've yet to open/set it up though. Nyla's current cage is 2nd hand, and since I'm getting a TAG and read that they prefer wide cages to deep ones, I figured I could just upgrade Nyla's to the unopened one and get a brand new one for my new baby boy.

Would either of these ones be good?
Bird cages: Cages for large birds at Drs. Foster & Smith

or

Bird cages: Large Corner Parrot Cage at Drs. Foster & Smith

Another thing - what are the best toys for them? What do you guys give YOUR TAGs?

For the next few months until he comes home I want to get EVERYTHING I NEED and really prepare myself. This weekend I'll be making DIY play and tree stands, getting the proper food and treats, and just setting everything up.
I still consider myself a newbie with birds so I'm asking all the wonderful seasoned bird caretakers, what did you do to prepare yourself for the arrival of your C/TAG? I see more advice on CAGs than I do for TAGs when searching online, could I use the same advice or are they too different? When he comes home the first thing I'm doing is take him to my avian vet, what should I expect in terms of health? Reading online they seem relatively healthy, and the breeder I'm going with seems to be very reputable.

I would appreciate any and all advice :) links to good quality cages and toys are GREATLY desired. The pellet I have Nyla on right now is Roudybush, and the food I feed her is 100% organic (I literally can - and have - eaten some of her food myself)
So as far as food goes I'm pretty sure I'm doing a good job but please correct me if I'm wrong. I am here to learn

Sorry for my rambling :p thanks for reading if you got this far lol

Congrats! Greys are AWESOME, although I may be a bit biased. They are the birds I've loved since childhood. I recommend you thoroughly read the threads in the African Grey forums. There's so much good info in there from food to toys to behavior and training.

I'm not going to address the vast majority of your questions because I'm an Amazon Snob and although I can address them, at this point, you will likely feel more comfortable with someone that is working with your species.

Go to "Parrot Cages 4 Less" and look at the following cages:

Lani Kai Lodge, w/ Play Top: 32" W x 22" D x 64" H Estimated Price: 350.00

Kauai Kastle w/ Playtop: 36" W x 26" D x 68" H Estimated Price: 450.00

I favor and use these cages. I like the fact that they are a Cage Distributor and ship cages every day! Mean's their staff know that there are two boxes that make-up a cage shipment. The other fact is: Note the Doors, Full height of the front face of the Cage! This feather (Okay, its a feature not a feather) is well worth having when you are clearing and/or changing out the cage.

The corner cage is worthless for use as a cage! Lots of cost, less space and a pain to clean!

The others will be along soon to address your species specific questions!

Enjoy!

Just a: "Bit Biased" Yup, just like I'm a 'Bit Biased" about Amazons! :D

I have to say, this forum has helped me in my bias...I am still heavily favouring the greys but would love to have an amazon now!

WELCOME! And congrats on your new baby!!! FYI, Sailboat is an Amazon Snob. He loves Zons lol!!!!! I have a Zon, Ekkie and a CAG. However, my CAG eats and runs the same schedule and diet with my Amazon and Ekkie, so my point is when looking for a fresh diet to feed your fid you can follow many different parrot diets on this blog. Ask, we will help!

I believe you will love your Gray, my Gray annoys my Zon because he copies all his sound to a "T". My Zom Buddy gets frustrated because my CAG is so good at copying. They are fun.

Congrats! While I have a whole flock of many different species of all sizes, I don't have a Grey, so I can't be of much species specific help. But I did want to swing by and say congrats on your impending parronthood!

I'll join Beatrice in congratulating you!
You'll get great advice and support here.
As for me, I'm not a Patagonian Snob. He's a terror, and I probably helped make him that way. But I love him. Oh, and, you might want to be careful nevere to take any advice from me!
Again, congratulations.
