We met Popeye today and brought him home. He's 14 mos old and is doing well. We just got home and I opened his box to look around while I set up a temporary cage. I ordered a large cage for him, it will be here early next week. Right now I'm sitting and talking with him. He's already eaten chicken, Apple, a nutriberry, a pecan, and he tossed his fig. He's been growling but so far it's all bluff. I had to pick him up out of the box, showed him his temporary cage and he walked into it and made himself at home. He seems to be bite pressure trained, he's been growling and while typing this, he's started making some new sounds.

He hears Buddy (he's never quiet) and he is looking for Buddy, lol. I'm working on setting up a play area for him, going toy shopping tonight. Husband has hit it off with Popeye. And the name, he was already named Popeye, but I've thought about calling him Buzz since his growl sounds like a buzzer lol. We'll see.

Opening the box.

Thanks everyone. He's now in my office chilling, a little play area set up and we are getting some items, a kabob, bells and chews for him.

And for your listening pleasure, the buzzer upon opening the box, lol.

Well, Husband and I had been speaking about another bird for months now but we wanted to wait till we found a house with the intent to have a bird room. It's not uncommon for us to visit places and see parrots. Today we dropped Husband's car at a tire shop, picked up his mother, took her to lunch and went to the flea market. She wanted to visit so we took her to a nice little market. There are about 4 bird vendors and we do visit them, know them and they know us and that we have parrots. Well this one bird vendor had a macaw the last time we visited, a serious plucker and I was talking to him and he was eating it up. That visit we visited with the macaw and the vendor for about 15 minutes.

Well today we went to the flea market and upon stopping at this vendor's booth there was Popeye sitting all fluffed and quiet. As soon as I started talking to him, he started buzzing "growling". The vendor was talking him up but I stuck my hand in the cage and interacted with him, still growling but not being physically aggressive. The vendor said he couldn't get him to step up, he stepped up for me, took a treat offered so now Husband wanted to try, he did and Popeye was great with Husband. So Husband and I talked about it and decided to get him. Since we didn't plan it, Popeye was put in a box and we took him home. I set him up in a travel cage which is way too small, that's why I set up a play area for him so he can come out, get on top and play or stretch during the day.

I surprised Husband. While we were waiting on his car, picking it up, I sat in my car and ordered a cage on Amazon. We did look at cages at the flea market but they were very over priced, like a similar cage to Buddy and Venus' was was $550, I got Popeye's for under $150 off of Amazon.

The vendor hugged Popeye and gave a happy, but cheerful good-bye, gave me his card and asked me to send him pictures of his setup and Popeye, also asked to keep him posted. He was attached alright.

While getting food ready for a dinner we were going to, I sat the travel cage on the kitchen table so Popeye could see me, look around and just give him some exposure to the home. No worries Venus and Buddy were in a different room. When we left, I put Popeye in my office, closed in the cage while we were gone. Quarantine has begun. I will be so happy when the cage arrives so I can get it set up and move him in.

I noticed he's a little thin, his keel bone is protruding a bit so we'll get him into his ideal weight range. After I put him to bed for the night I got extra love, gave extra head scritches to Buddy and Venus wanted her shoulder time. All great after a shower and change of clothes.

What a great story, he is a beautiful bird. Loved the video; Buzz would be a great name.

Bet you can't wait until quarantine is over to begin the introductions!!
