Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
...of EATTING!! HURRAAAYYYYY!!!:04: I put his plate of goodies on the floor of his house, and came in here to my "office" to pay some bills..about 20 minutes I got up and snuck QUIETLY to the entrance to my living room, and slowly just poked my head in to see what was going on. Baby Bird was sitting in the middle of his plate just munching away..then he walked over to his water bowl and took a couple sips!! WEEEEEEEE!!! I can relax now, knowing he is eating and drinking. Now,all I have to do is get him to find his bowls so I can remove the plate.
But at least he is eating and drinking..phewwwww!

One of the things my vet said and that I've also read a few place is that cockatiels are naturally ground foragers. I've appropriated a flexible cutting board for Dusty and he seems to like pecking away at the birdie corn bread and seeds that I lay out there for him. I put his seed and pellet mix in the bowl up on the side of the cage and he seems to give both locations more or less equal attention. You can see him on his "foraging mat" on the "Dusty loves his carrots" thread

Yep my cockatiels like eating off a paper plate on the floor of the cage.
congratulations on getting him to eat.
try setting his food dishes on the floor.

Wade, I noticed that when I bought him,he and three others <same clutch> were in this wooden platform type thingie with sides about 8 inches high,on all four sides and the platform was about four feet long and three feet wide and the breeder had paper plates in the middle with the groups goodies on the plates..so maybe he won't/ doesn't wanna be like a normal birdie and eat out of bowls..I will keep the bowls where they are and change his grub out everyday, but still use the plate and give him time.

I think he is doing pretty well for just a couple days here. He sat on my knee and let me skritch his noggin while we watched "law and order" today

Hes doing great...well done on figuring out where he likes to eat...so glad he is eating and drinking on his own for you...its really worrying if you dont see them eat ...been there with Mr Biggles when he came first and its no picnic and you cant relax until you know for sure they are able to eat and drink on their own

Great news Jim! Has Amy's behavior changed knowing there is a little friend waiting in the wings?

No,not really,Scott..she is showing interest,as she did with Jonesy..and like I posted before, she asked "whats THAT??", when she first saw him come out of his pet-bring-me-home-box..and then there was the "Hi biiirrrrddd" when he was on my finger and I brought him close to her house for a closer look. But her 'tude towards me hasn't changed a bit,as my daily routine with her hasn't changed to give her a reason to get p.o. at me,or him :grey::)
